Stop being a bully!
- Krituka Sapkota - 25005, Grad ... 10 November, 2021

Bullying someone for fun and entertainment is more common between teenagers and young people. Most of the places we go people face bullies. The act of bullying is also known as “ragging”. The people who torture or bully others are called bullies. Bullying is of many types : Physical, Verbal, Psychological, Cyber, etc. Bullying can cause many problems to the victim mentally and physically. Bullying can take place in schools, colleges, the workplace and many other places. It can take place at home as well. People can be victims of bullying at any stage of their life.

In schools, colleges, usually the seniors tend to bully the juniors to show their power and privileges of being a senior. Bullying is generally done by stronger people to weaker ones. It also happens in the workplace where new staff or employees are bullied. People who are victims of bullying can have anxiety, depression, feel lonely, and can even lead to the point of suicide. People lose their confidence after getting bullied. They start performing badly at their academics or their work. This causes the victim to develop insecurities and become less active. Physical bullying is the type of bullying when someone tortures a person physically or touches them without their consent. Verbal bullying is when someone teases a person based on their appearance or many other factors. Cyber bullying is when social media is used to insult , tease or hurt someone. They may also post someone's personal information in social media to insult or blackmail them. Bullying has become a growing problem worldwide which has affected many people and has led to large number of suicide cases. The victims of bullying should immediately report to the respective person or get help from somebody. Bullying is worse when the bullies are not punished for their behaviour. A help from someone can reduce the effects or result of bullying. If students are being bullied, they should report to their teachers or parents. The school should take necessary and proper action against the person and their activities. Many awareness programmes are held to educate people about bullying and its effects on the victims. Some people are bullied because of their age as well. Many young people bully the older people. People also get bullied in their home by family members or relatives. People can get bullied at their home emotionally, physically or verbally. The victims should be provided proper counselling to help them heal mentally and physically. The schools should monitor the behavior of the students to avoid cases of bullying. The children should be taught about equality from the beginning so that they won't be involved in such activities.

No one deserves to be bullied. Everyone should be treated equally in their home, school, workplace or any place they go. No one should be judged on their appearance , race, where they come from, education , financial status, etc. In the end, everyone deserves to live and be treated equally by everyone. No one should go through the pain of getting bullied.

- Anushka Basnet - 24001, Grade ... 10 November, 2021

- Samip Aryal - 25014, Grade IX ... 29 October, 2021

Impact of Social Media
- Muskan Singh - 24003, Grade X ... 29 October, 2021

Due to the user-friendly characteristics, social media is getting increasingly popular these days. People can connect with each other across distances via social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and others. To put it in another way, social media has brought the entire world to our fingertips. The youth, in particular, are among the most active users of social media. All of this leads you to believe that anything so powerful and with such a broad reach can't possibly be all bad. The same way there are two sides to a coin, there are two sides to social networking. As a result, different people have varied perspectives on this contentious issue. So, in this Social Media essay, we'll look at the benefits and drawbacks.

When we consider the positive aspects of social media, we can see that there are numerous benefits. The most crucial being that it is an excellent educational tool. All of the information needed is only a mouse click away. Students can use social media to educate themselves on a variety of issues. Furthermore, thanks to social media, live lectures are now available. You can sit in Nepal and listen to a lecture taking place in America. As people become less reliant on newspapers, they increasingly rely on social media for news. It keeps you up to date on the newest news from across the world. A person's social awareness of global issues increases. It also deepens your relationships with your loved ones. Because of social media, distance is no longer a barrier. You can simply speak with your friends and relatives in other countries, for example. Most importantly, it provides a fantastic free forum for young aspiring artists to express their ability. You can also find fantastic job possibilities through social media.Another benefit is that corporations who want to market their brands will have an easier time doing so. Social media has evolved into a hub for advertising, providing you with several options to connect with customers. Despite its numerous positives, social media is widely regarded as one of society's most dangerous elements. If social media usage is not closely managed, it can have serious effects. It is damaging because it intrudes on your privacy in ways you have never experienced before. Children are becoming a target for pedophiles and hackers as a result of their oversharing on social media. It also leads to cyberbullying, which has a huge impact on everyone. As a result, social media sharing, particularly by minors, must be closely supervised at all times. The addition of social media, which is quite popular among the youth, comes next.

This addiction affects a student's academic performance since they spend their time on social media rather than studying. Social media can also cause communal schisms. It is used to promote fake news, poisoning the minds of peace-loving citizens. In conclusion, social media undoubtedly has both benefits and drawbacks. But, in the end, it's up to the user. Young people, in particular, must strike a balance between their academic achievements, physical activity, and social media use. Excessive usage of anything is bad, and social media is no exception. As a result, we must aim to live a fulfilling life that is well-balanced.

Bermuda Triangle
- Niharika Chapagain - 25006, G ... 22 October, 2021

The Bermuda Triangle is a region in the western part of the North Atlantic Ocean and there, many aircraft and ships are believed to have disappeared in the past in a mysterious way. Bermuda Triangle is considered to be the most mysterious part of the ocean, from where many have not returned according to the past research done. There are many stories and myths about the Bermuda Triangle, and most of the stories are far from reality to believe. The Bermuda Triangle is the name for the area in the Sargasso sea which can be outlined with a triangle, which is the reason for its name “Bermuda Triangle”. One corner of the Bermuda triangle is Miami, another is the Islands of Bermuda, and the third corner is San Juan Puerto Rico. Though people stretch the dangerous area into different directions, this is the general version of the area of the Bermuda Triangle. The area of the Bermuda Triangle is constantly traveled and various ships like cargo ships, cruise ships, etc travel across this area, while airplanes also constantly travel in the sky over the triangle. But, the bad reputation and the myths about the Bermuda Triangle never really faded.

The mysterious disappearances, all started with Flight 19 on December 5, 1945 AD. Five American aircraft were on a training flight over the Bermuda triangle area, when they suddenly faced some fuel problems and aircraft malfunctions. Some crew members were sent to save the people on Flight 19, however, all of the 14 pilots of Flight 19 as well as the 13 crew members of the Mariner who came to save Flight 19, disappeared. Their sudden disappearance led to one of the largest air and sea searches in history, and many aircraft and ships were sent to the Atlantic Ocean for the search, however, no trace of bodies or aircraft was found. And this was how the legendary Bermuda Triangle was born. From that day, the Bermuda Triangle is considered a danger zone that covers 1.3 million square km and roughly five hundred thousand square miles and it is also known as The Devil’s Triangle. After this incident, the number of references to this anonymous place started to grow and people realized that sometimes really weird and strange incidents happened in that area in the past too.

This mystery was also traced back to the time of Christopher Columbus. Some people claimed that the explorer Christopher Columbus, passing through this zone, noticed some incomprehensible object flying away into the sky. Columbus also had noticed that his compass behaved strangely in the area of the Bermuda Triangle. After the first incident of Flight 19, 1 cargo ship, and 3 aircraft along with all passengers and crew were lost in the Bermuda Triangle, during the period from 1945 to 1950. It is believed that the influence of the Bermuda Triangle extends to the land, because in 1969, two small lighthouses on a tiny island of Great Isaac Cay, completely disappeared.

Neither the lighthouses nor the bodies of people were found. Though there are no witnesses to prove the supernatural power that is believed to exist in Bermuda Triangle, however, some strange incident happened on December 4, 1970, with Bruce Gernon, who fortunately came out to be alive, and shared his experience. He even wrote a book, mentioning how some dark, black clouds covered his airplane, and how he was teleported to Miami beach from Island Andros. After hearing this incident, scientists believe the teleporting thing to be related to dark energy. The mystery of the Bermuda Triangle is still a mystery, but the belief that there is something fascinating, and strange in the Bermuda Triangle still exists.

- Angel Dhimal - 25002, Grade I ... 21 October, 2021

Is crying a sign of weakness or strength?
- Kriti Nepal - 24010, Grade X ... 21 October, 2021

There are a lot of emotions we human beings can show; it can be happiness, sadness, anger, fear and many more. Amongst these emotions, crying is often persecuted, picked on, made fun of etc. We often tend to cry whenever we feel a bit hurt, frustrated, sad, when things don’t go as planned or when we are in pain mentally or physically etc. Almost all of the people have either one of the 3 opinions  about crying; they either think crying is a sign of weakness or it is a sign of strength and a selected few are neutral or think of it as something natural.

I personally think crying is a sign of strength and not weakness. It is a human emotion and character strength that shows we care about something and that we are not afraid of showing our emotions regardless of what the society might think. Crying reduces the emotional stress we are going through and makes us feel lighter and open up our mind for positive thoughts and make oneself feel better. There is a stereotypical mentality that we grew up with when we cried that said ‘Only weak people cry’, ‘Be brave don’t cry like a girl’, ‘Boys don’t cry’,and many others which I feel are completely wrong. The people make it sound like crying is bad, and that it makes one weak and messy, and make the people more and more insecure about crying or showing their emotions openly whereas crying in front of people needs courage; it means that a person is showing their trust and confidence in others. Crying is shedding off the heaviness we are bearing in our heart and making oneself ready to face other challenges yet to come. Crying is not only brave, but also an honest reflection of heart and what we feel.  I feel crying is a sign of strength however in some cases it can also depend on the situation or the perspective. Like crying when we lose someone close to us, when we get hurt is a sign of courage and strength, however, crying just to achieve something, get attention etc I feel is an act of a coward or it is a sign of weakness. People who cry a lot have had more practice dwelling on the inner workings of their mind and heart which makes them more self-aware. Pretending to be okay when we are not doing well physically or mentally might not be so good for ownself and that Crying is normal, and repressing that is not necessarily ideal.

Hence, I feel that crying and showing one’s emotions is a sign of strength and courage. We must normalize crying instead of making fun of the people and calling them weak for speaking their heart and showing their true emotions. Since crying helps in getting positive, decreases stress, makes us care less of what the people might think and live more for ourselves, and also needs a lot of courage to show this emotion I feel that crying is a sign of strength and not weakness.

Is the education system failing to teach us humanity?
- Jiya Sapkota - 25003, Grade X ... 06 October, 2021

Education is the key to success. It makes our life worth living and it is something that helps us to get the job or the profession we want. Society is developing at its own pace. During the development we are learning essential things that we should learn and know about. Along with the development, the problems and the havoc have arisen. It feels like we have made ourselves uncomfortable due to the desperation and the need for development. Education has taught us almost everything but it has failed to teach us how someone should be. It has failed to teach us how people are facing problems. And in spite of development, the society is still the same, the same conservative and inhumane society.

Although some kids do not show any seriousness towards education and studies, believe me or not; all of us have learnt at least something from our school. We study because we want good jobs and live a better life and earn money, but we aren't taught that being a good human will be enough. It isn't completely the fault of the education system but these things aren't well mentioned from the place or the main source from where we learn things. Since our childhood, we have been learning to give much attention to our physical health but our mental health has always been lacking. Yes, physical health is important. But mental health is as important as physical health. Education system has been making us remember all the preventive measures and symptoms of almost every physical illness but there is no mention of mental illness being as important as the physical illness. We have been seeing people being depressed and the other one mocking or making fun of them. It has made me sad about how people have forgotten that calling someone “moti” or “kali” as an insult is not something that is funny. It is one of the worst things to do. Body shaming is an important problem and it is a serious kind of problem. Some people face body dysmorphia and face dysmorphia which already makes one feel worthless and feel some kind of hate towards their body. Education system has failed to teach us how important mental or psychological illness is. Sexuality awareness is absolutely zero in our education system. The same conservative society has made us and our thoughts homophobic. People aren't accepting the thoughts and the changes that are occurring in society. People aren't accepting that someone can be identified as a part of lgbtqia+ community, they aren't accepting or digesting that people feel changes about themselves too. Kids are often found bullying each other in schools with lots of facilities and high fees. So no matter how good the school is, it has definitely failed to teach the kid the value of a human, to not hurt the emotions of someone. Our education system Teaches us gender equality and how only male and females should be equal, but it has failed to teach us how transgender people (people who do not identify as the same gender that they were born with) are humans too. How they should not be sexualised neither made fun of. Non-binary people(the people who do not identify as a male or  female/ someone who is outside of the gender binary) are humans too and they should be treated equally and not made fun of. The same school teaching about gender equality is teaching how guys should never be weak and never cry, the same school teaching about women empowerment is teaching about how women belong in the kitchen, isn't  it a big problem too? The same school teaching and awaring students about “rape” is teaching how the girls should cover up their body and not wear revealing clothes. Sometimes some schools give promotions to the social evils that already should've been decreased and eradicated. The school teaches about how untouchability and discrimination should be decresed and exact after sometime they go on telling how some people should not be allowed to entered into the kitchen or household according to castes and class. The same school teaching about everyone being equal, speaks against inter caste marriage. The education system also lacks when the awareness about specially abled people comes. Some schools fail to teach us on how making fun of specially abled people is disrespectful. The education system and some schools have made a mindset that every good and bright student should choose complex subjects like science as their major. Unless it is their interest, it is a good thing but if it isn't, it might cause problems. What they haven't thought is are they at least happy about it? Is it really the subject that they want to choose as the major? Does it really help to get someone’s dream profession? Although, the society hasn't failed to teach us on how humble we should be, how physical changes occur, even about how much sex and reproduction is important. It has made people free to talk about these topics. It has been a better society in comparison to how it was a few decades ago. Many schools like ours have been teaching these same things, and are covering these same problems. There are a lot of school in different parts of our countries which teach the students to be homophobic and being depressed is caused due to unhealthy relationships only. The education system has taught us to respect elders and someone who is older than us but it has failed to encourage people to raise their voices when needed.

It's not like only the education system is at fault, the students should learn about the changes too, even parents should teach their children about these things. But little does a toddler know everything about life, they have to learn something and they learn and teach whatever they’ve been learning since their toddlerhood. Even the government should allow the citizens and the education system to have awareness programmes and orientations. The government should make strict laws about these problems too. But Is the education system failing to teach us humanity? No, it completely isn’t but a little bit of improvement, change and awareness in the education system would make everyone think a bit differently and want to be better human beings.

- Muskan Singh - 24003, Grade X ... 06 October, 2021

- Simone Shree Pathak - 24006, ... 05 October, 2021

My everyday struggle being a girl in Nepal
- Joya Shrestha - 25004, Grade ... 05 October, 2021

Observing the current status and comparing the current situation with past situations I have found some positive changes regarding being a girl in Nepal however some parts of Nepali society have not accepted these positive changes. Everyday many girls have to face different problems. It’s the 21st century but also in many society people are doing gender discrimination. People still think girls are a burden. In many societies girls are not sent to school even after knowing that every child has the right to education. Girls are given less priority and people think that girls should only stay in the kitchen . They are only made to do cooking, cleaning. In small age  girls are being raped.10 years old are raped by her father. a 13 years old is being raped by her brothers. Even girls are not safe at their house. A 13 years old girl who was returning back from her friends house after studying was raped and killed but still the rapist hasn't been punished. Father is selling his daughter for money. In many society child marriage has not ended 13 years old girl is getting married just because she is a burden. A 15 years old is getting married to an unknown guy and she is being sold in India. A girl is getting married but the groom’s family is demanding dowry. If the bride's family doesn't give dowry then the bride is being tortured everyday and the bride can't do anything and she suicides or keeps shut about the violence that is being inflicted upon her.. In the past there was a culture which was followed but now that culture does not exist it was Sati Pratha where women used to be burnt alive if their husband died. A girl can't live her life after her husband dies. That's so unfair but in the past a guy used to have more than 10 wifes and if that guy died all those 10 to 15 women needed to lose their life. Still in Nepal being a girl is hard. We girls can't go out at night. Why should only girls be scared at night to go out? Why shouldn't boys be scared? It is because of the patriarchal mindset of the people. We girls should be scared all the time. What if  I will be the next Nirmala Panta? What if I will be the next Samjhana? Here in Nepal if we don't like the guys back we will be acid attack victims. The rapist won't be punished here strict laws are not made rapists are freely moving here and there. Here if a girl is having their first period they are kept in a dark place where their father and brother can't see them. They should not see their father and brother at that time where girls need care, a warm place, proteins etc but they are kept in a dark room where they don't get care. It's so hard for them who need to face these kinds of problems. Being a girl is not easy at all in Nepal. A girl is known as Laxmi but when she is in her period why can’t she touch the kitchen ? Why can she touch her father? and in Tihar she is the one who does puja for her brother. In Nepal if a girl laughs a lot, if a girl doesn't walk nicely,if a girl doesn't sit nicely, people start to talk about them and say “being a girl u shouldn't do this that”.Why we girls have to struggle a lot? If we do not fit in their patriarchal mindset of a “woman” then we are demeaned, ridiculed and forced to act as they please. Why do people think that we girls are less than boys? It is the 21st century in many societies people do not  discriminate between girls and boys but there are many societies in Nepal where they haven't accepted these positive changes.I hope that there will be more positive changes in few years and no girls should suffer from rape, acid attack, women trafficking, gender discrimination, and girls can get proper care during their periods.
