Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes: A Summary
- Aryama bhattarai - 32027, Gra ... 13 September, 2024

Sadako was a girl born and raised in Hiroshima, Japan. Sadako was always a runner, and she could run even before she could walk. However, when she was born, the USA had dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima. The bomb caused a disease called leukaemia. People went to Peace Park to commemorate the lives of those who died from leukaemia as a result of the atomic bomb. Sadako called it Peace Day, but her parents told her that it was not called Peace Day.

Sadako went with her best friend, Chizuko. The very next day, she told her parents that she was going to participate in a relay race! But it wasn’t just a race; it was a race against life. Sadako was determined to win the race. When Sadako won, she felt a light dizziness, but she shook it off and celebrated with her friends. However, her dizziness worsened, and this was how her leukaemia started.

Sadako was rushed to the Red Cross Hospital, where she began treatment. Her best friend, Chizuko, told her that if she folded a thousand paper cranes, God would grant her a wish and make her better. Chizuko folded a golden crane to show her. Sadako started making her flock, and her brother Masahiro tied them up so they would look like they were flying.

One day, Sadako woke up feeling weak and couldn’t get out of bed. She touched the golden crane her best friend had made for her. She had managed to make 644 cranes. She looked at her flock and thought, "How beautiful they are!"

Then, she closed her eyes. She never woke up.

My first swimming lesson
- Risimi Mewahang - 33017, Grad ... 10 September, 2024

Me and my mom went for my swimming lesson instead of celebrating Teej. I had mixed feelings at that time. Once we reached the destination, I was excited but a little too scared. My mom bought me swimming goggles, then I wore my swimsuit and went inside the pool, and to be honest, it wasn’t cold. The coach taught me the easy steps first as I was a beginner. Since I was scared, I didn’t let my body loose and tightened my body while I was learning to float. The coach told me to loosen it,  so I did and successfully started to float. When I got perfect on floating, the coach told me to glide till the end of the swimming pool till I got perfect on landing and gliding in the swimming pool. So after an hour, I finally swam on my own. I didn’t go deep and swam in the 3-foot area. I was told to paddle with my feet. I had to practice, and it felt like I was just resting while I was paddling. I also had to make a beat. After I was perfect at it, we headed to the bigger swimming pool, and we started to swim at the depth, which was 6 feet tall, but while I was swimming, I lost control and I started to “sink,” and I ended up drowning, but my coach saved me. A few minutes later, my biggest fear came, and I had to do a backstroke. It was terrifying, and I drowned 12 times. But my coach saved me every time. He told me to stop, and we continued with the easy stroke. I swam for 2-3 hours. We had to end as it was getting colder and darker. After the swimming lesson, I ate some delicious food and headed towards home. I wonder what I will learn next time!!
