There was a little boy named Charlie. He lived with his grandparents and parents. For breakfast, lunch, and dinner, Charlie would have cabbage and carrots, but what Charlie loved the most was chocolate. On Charlie’s birthday, the family would save up to buy a chocolate bar.

The next day, the newspaper announced that Mr. Wonka had hidden 5 golden tickets in 5 of his chocolate bars. Whoever found them would get to visit his factory. The first golden ticket was found by Augustus Gloop, the second by a girl named Veruca Salt, the third by Violet Beauregarde, and the fourth by Mike Teavee.

One day, Charlie found some money on the road while coming home from school. He went to a shop and bought a Wonka bar. After eating one, he bought another. As he was about to open it, he discovered a shiny golden ticket. Excited, he rushed home and told his mother and father. The next day, they all went to Mr. Wonka’s factory.

Their first stop was the chocolate room, where Augustus fell into the chocolate river while trying to taste it. Next, they visited the great gum machine, where Violet turned into a blueberry after ignoring warnings about the gum's consequences. In the nut room, Veruca fell into a garbage chute while trying to grab a squirrel. Her parents followed to rescue her.

In the TV room, Mike got shrunk after being transmitted through a television. Finally, Charlie, Mr. Wonka, and Grandpa Joe reached the exit. Outside, they saw Veruca's family covered in garbage, Mike very tall and thin, Violet still purple, Augustus now thin, and Charlie perfectly fine.
