About the book

This story is about a girl named Sheila. Sheila hates swimming, dogs, ghosts, spiders, and thunderstorms, but she doesn't admit she is scared of them. Especially not to her new friend, Mouse Ellis, the yo-yo champion of Tarrytown. Sheila is determined to show everyone that she really can be Sheila the Great. 

Plot Summary

During summer vacation, Sheila and her family go to Tarrytown. They stay at Professor Ergan’s house. Sheila and her sister Libby are excited to have separate bedrooms, but Sheila wishes they had gone to Disneyland instead. When they arrive, they meet Professor Ergan’s small dog, Jennifer, which Sheila dislikes. Her parents convince her to stay, promising to keep Jennifer away.

Sheila doesn’t like Professor Ergan’s house or his three sons’ rooms. She is scared of ghosts, thunderstorms, spiders, dogs, and swimming. However, she learns to swim and becomes very happy. Her mother and her instructor, Marty, help her a lot. At summer camp, Sheila also does pottery and makes new friends: Mouse Ellis, Betsy Ellis, Sondra, and Jane. The Tubman family has a good summer vacation, and they are about to leave when they find out Jennifer is about to have puppies.

Character Analysis

Sheila Tubman: Sheila is a funny and interesting girl but she tends to lie. She is afraid of swimming, thunderstorms, dogs, ghosts, and spiders. But at the end, Sheila proves herself by overcoming her fear of swimming and becoming a great swimmer.

Libby Tubman: Libby is Sheila’s thirteen-year-old sister. She looks like a ballerina but dances poorly. 

Mrs. Tubman: Sheila’s encouraging and caring mother who supports her family.

My Opinion and Recommendation:

I recommend this book because it’s the funniest book I’ve ever read. It talks about places like Tarrytown and is full of adventures. It is also a bit scary. I think everyone should read this book once in their lifetime. Sheila makes the book funny with her lies.

मनको लड्डु कथाको लेखक यशु  श्रेष्ठ हुन् । यस चित्रकथाको चित्रकार सुरज राई हुन् । यो चित्रकथामा १८ वटा पृष्ठहरू छन् । यो कथा परिचय पब्लिकसनले प्रकाशन गरेको हाे । कथावस्तुमा  वनबिरालो निन्द्राबाट उठ्छ ।  उसले पेट छाम्छ । उसलाई भोक लागेको हुन्छ । उसले यता उता हेर्छ। उसले एउटा गुँड भेटाउँछ । उसले खुसी हुँदै गुँडमा हेर्छ तर त्यो गुँडमा अन्डा मात्र हुन्छन् । उसले अरू आहारा खाने विचार गर्छ । उसले दुई चार दिनपछि आउने विचार गर्छ। दुई चार दिन पछि आउँदा बचेरा  निस्किएका देख्छ तर ती धेरै साना हुन्छन् । उसले दुई चार दिन अरू केही आहारा खोजेर खान्छ । ऊ अर्को दिन बचेरा खान्छु भनेर जान्छ तर सबै बचेराहरू उड्न सिकिसकेका हुन्छन् । उसले बचेरा नखाए पनि पेट भरिएकै थियो भनेर चित्त बुझाउँछ । यो कथाबाट मैले लोभी हुँदैन भन्ने शिक्षा पाएँ। यो कथा पढ्दा मलाई रमाइलो लाग्यो । यस कथामा कोरिएका चित्रहरू पनि रमाइला छन् । म मेरा सबै साथीहरूलाई यो पुस्तक पढ्न अनुरोध गर्दछु। 

गौतम बुद्ध नेपालको रूपन्देही जिल्लाको लुम्बिनी भन्ने ठाउँमा जन्मिएका थिए । उनको वास्तविक नाम सिद्धार्थ गौतम थियो । उनी बुद्ध धर्मका संस्थापक हुन् । उनी दक्षिण एसियाका एक धार्मिक गुरु तथा तपस्वी थिए ।  बुद्धको अनुशासन, अहिंसा र सत्यको उपदेशका कारण उनले बुद्ध धर्मकाे स्थापना  गर्न सफल भएका हुन् । गौतम बुद्ध ईशापूर्व ५६२ मा राजा शुद्धोधन र रानी मायादेवीको पुत्रको रूपमा जन्मिएका थिए । उनको जन्मपछि आमाको निधन भएकाले उनको पालन पोषण उनकै सानिमाले गरिन् । उनले विवाह गरेपछि एउटा छोराको जन्म भयो । लगभग २९ वर्षको उमेरमा दरबारकाे सुख सुविधा, धन सम्पत्ति सबै चिज त्यागेर उनी तपस्यामा बसे । कठोर तपस्यापछि उनले ज्ञान प्राप्त गरे । उनले आफूले प्राप्त गरेको ज्ञान संसारभरि बाँड्न थाले । उनले दिएका शान्तिका सन्देशहरू विश्वभरि फैलिएका छन् । 

My sister turned five years old today. I woke up and went to the room where she was sleeping and I wished her “Happy Birthday”. Then I started to get ready for school. After my school was over I returned home. I quickly did my homework with my sister before her birthday party. Slowly the guests began to come. After everyone arrived, we played some games and enjoyed our dinner. After dinner, it was time to cut the cake. My sister looked surprised. We sang the birthday song when she cut the cake. The cake was delicious. After eating cake, everyone returned to their homes. Finally we opened her birthday gifts. She received some wonderful presents. Then it was time to sleep. We really enjoyed her birthday party and she was very happy. 

The Panama Canal was a huge project in Central America that took 10 years and 3 months to finish. It was a big deal because it raised ships on one side and lowered them on the other to move them through, which is pretty cool!

First, France tried to build the canal but faced big problems. About 23,000 workers got sick or hurt, and landslides and heavy rains made things worse. They started in 1881 but had to stop in 1894.

Panama is a country in South America, between Brazil and Costa Rica. It's beautiful, but ships had to go around it, adding 20,000 kilometres to their trip.

The Panama Canal made a big difference in travel time for ships. They started building it in 1904 and finished in 1914, taking 10 years. The canal works by lifting ships to the level of the next part and then opening gates to let them through one by one.

मातातीर्थ औँसीको दिनलाई आमाको मुख हेर्ने दिन पनि भनिन्छ । मातातीर्थ औँसी वैशाख कृष्ण पक्षको औँसीमा पर्छ । यो दिनमा हामी आमालाई मिठा मिठा खाने कुरा दिन्छौँ । आमालाई सम्मान गर्छौं । आमालाई उपहार दिन्छौँ । आमालाई माया गर्छौं । आमालाई लुगा पनि दिन्छौँ र खुट्टा ढोग्छौँ । यो पर्व हिन्दुहरूले मनाउँछन् । आमा नभएकाहरूले पनि आफ्नी आमाको  मुक्तिको लागि कामना गर्दै श्राद्ध गर्छन् । यस दिन मठमन्दिरमा गएर आमाको नाममा पुरेत बाजेहरूलाई दान गरिन्छ । मातातीर्थ औँसीमा मात्र नभई हामीले सधैँ आमालाई माया र सम्मान गर्नुपर्छ। 

नेपाल एक कृषिप्रधान देश हो । नेपालका अधिकांश मानिसहरू कृषि पेसामा आबद्ध छन् । यहाँ विभिन्न किसिमका धर्म, संस्कृति र चाडपर्व मनाइन्छ । नेपालको मुख्य कृषि उत्पादन धान, गहुँ र मकै हो । धान यहाँको मुख्य बाली हो । धानको रोपाइँ खासगरी वर्षाकाे समय अथवा असार महिनामा गरिन्छ । असार महिनामा धेरै पानी पर्ने हुनाले खेतको माटो राम्ररी भिज्नुका साथै  पशुपालनको लागि पनि प्रशस्त हरियो घाँस उपलब्ध हुने गर्छ त्यसैले कृषकका लागि असार महिना एक विशेश महिना हो । असारको मध्य अर्थात् असार १५  हामी नेपालीका लागि धेरै महत्त्वपूर्ण र रमाइलो दिन हो । यो दिनमा माना रोपेर मङ्सिरमा मुरी फलाउने काम हुन्छ  । याे हाम्रो परम्परागत चाड नै हो । यस दिन खास गरी घर परिवारका सबै जना खेतमा जाने, हिलोभित्र छिरेर धानको बिरुवा रोप्ने, हिलोसँग छ्‌यापाछ्याप खेल्ने, असारे गीत गाउने, दही, चिउरा, आँप, केरा आदि खाएर  रमाइलो गरिन्छ । हाल यस दिनमा स्वदेशी मात्र नभई विदेशी पनि सहभागी हुन्छन् । यस दिनलाई  हाम्रो संस्कृति जोगाउने मात्र नभई पर्यटन उत्सवका रूपमा पनि मनाउन थालिएको छ । असार १५ मा कृषि कार्यमा लाग्नेहरूका लागि भ्याई नभ्याई हुन्छ ।  यस दिन दही चिउरा खाने प्रचलन रहेकाे  छ  । असार महिनाकाे चर्काे घाममा खेतमा काम गरिरहेका किसानलाई चिसाे दहीले शीतलता प्रदान गर्दछ । नेपाल धार्मिक तथा सांस्कृतिक रूपमा प्रसिद्ध छ । हाम्रा आफ्नै माैलिक परम्पराहरू छन् । असार १५ सम्पूर्ण नेपालीहरूका लागि महत्त्वपूर्ण दिन हाे । असार १५ लाई नेपालभरि धान दिवसका रूपमा  मनाइन्छ ।

A hobby is an activity which we do in our free time. My favorite hobbies are playing football and chess. Football helps as a physical exercise. We play football in a field. It is played between two teams. In football, there are 22 players in total. In football the aim is to score goals and defend and not the opponent score goals. In football I like Messi, Mbappé and Neymar. 

Chess develops our knowledge. I play football in my free time and with my friends. I play chess during lunch break at school.   We play chess on a board. It is played between players. In chess the aim is to protect the king with other pieces then capture the opponent king. I like Magnus Carlsen.

I suggest you play football because it is a great workout from head to toe. It is a great form of exercise. I also suggest you play chess because it develops our knowledge. It makes us smart. 

Nuwakot is the best place in my life.

 I always want to go when I have time.

It’s my mother’s birthplace, also very beautiful. 

I love to visit Nuwakot and always feel joyful.

There is a nine-storeyed palace and two big rivers. 

It has fertile land for growing vegetables, fruits, and crops.

There are many trees and greenery that produce fresh air. 

I always go to the stone-tap to taste natural spring water.

There are two hydropower plants to generate electricity. 

Not so hot, not so cold, it’s just fertile and pretty.

I cannot come back without tasting fresh buffalo milk. 

The roads nowadays are so good, like silk.

I always love to visit Nuwakot, either in summer or

 winter. It’s my best place because there’s my Mama ghar.

राष्ट्रलाई चिनाउने चिह्न वा वस्तुलाई राष्ट्रिय चिह्न मानिन्छ। चिह्नहरू देश अनुसार फरक फरक हुन्छन् । हाम्रा राष्ट्रिय चिह्नहरू जस्तैः राष्ट्रिय फूल, राष्ट्रिय चरा, राष्ट्रिय जनावर, राष्ट्रिय झन्डा, राष्ट्रिय रङ र निसान छाप हुन् । हाम्रो राष्ट्रिय फूल लालीगुराँस हो। लालीगुराँस पश्चिम भेगमा पाइन्छ। लालीगुराँस रातो रङको हुन्छ। लालीगुराँस साह्रै सुन्दर देखिन्छ। हाम्रो राष्ट्रिय चरा डाँफे हो। डाँफे हिमाली भेगमा पाइन्छ। डाँफे नौरङ्गी चरा हो। हाम्रो राष्ट्रिय जनावर गाई हो। गाई विभिन्न रङ्गमा पाइन्छ । गाईको दुध पोसिलो हुन्छ । गाईको गोबर खेतबारीमा प्रयोग हुन्छ। गाईलाई तिहारमा पूजा पनि गरिन्छ। नेपालको राष्ट्रिय झन्डा अरू देशको झन्डा भन्दा फरक खालको छ। नेपालको झन्डा तीनकुने आकारको छ । झन्डाको माथि चन्द्र र तल सूर्य रहेको छ। झन्डाको किनारमा निलो र भित्र रातो रङ छ। चन्द्र र सूर्य सेतो रङको छ। हाम्रो राष्ट्रिय रङ सिम्रिक हो। यो पनि रातो हुन्छ। हाम्रो देशको सरकारले प्रयोग गर्ने चिह्नलाई निसाना छाप भनिन्छ । निसाना छापमा नेपालको नक्सा, सगरमाथा, राष्ट्रिय झन्डा र राष्ट्रिय फूल अङ्कित गरिएको छ ।

शिक्षा भनेको मानिसलाई सही बाटो देखाउने एउटा मार्ग हो । कुनै विषयमा ज्ञान लिनु वा दिनुलाई शिक्षा भनिन्छ । शिक्षा भनेको ज्ञान हो । शिक्षाबिना मानिस पूर्ण हुन सक्दैन । मानिसलाई आफ्नो जीवनयापन गर्नका लागि प्रमुख माध्यम शिक्षा नै हो । शिक्षाले हामीलाई ज्ञान दिन्छ । शिक्षा प्राप्त गरेको मानिसले धेरै कुरा जानेको हुन्छ । शिक्षा ग्रहण गर्नको लागि कुनै उमेर, जात, लिङ्ग, धर्म र संस्कारले छेक्न सक्दैन । मानिसले आमाको काखदेखि नै शिक्षा प्राप्त गर्छ । जन्मेपछि अनेक तरिकाले ज्ञान प्राप्त गरेको हुन्छ । शिक्षित मान्छे र अशिक्षित मान्छेमा धेरै फरक हुन्छ । कुनै वस्तु देखेर, सुनेर, छामेर पनि ज्ञान प्राप्त गर्न सकिन्छ । नेपालमा पनि शिक्षाको संस्थागत विकास हुनु पूर्व प्राचीन समयमा धर्ममा आधारित परम्परागत शिक्षा व्यवस्था थियो । अहिले शिक्षाको क्षेत्रमा धेरै विकास भएको छ । स्कुल कलेजहरू खुलेका छन् । सबैले पढ्न पाएका छन् । सबैले पढ्न पाउनुपर्छ । पढेकाे मानिसले धेरै प्रगति गर्छ । हामी सबैजनाले राम्राेसँग पढेर असल र सफल मानिस बन्नुपर्छ ।

I will always cherish the memory of my ninth birthday party. All of my close cousins and friends were invited to my birthday party. I have always attended my friend’s birthday party. And before going to every birthday party, my parents used to say that we will not be celebrating my birthday party. 

But when my birthday was near I asked my mom, “Can we do my birthday party at our house? By calling only five people for the party.” My mom said, “Well there are a lot of good friends of yours which is obviously more than five, not even five, maybe ten!” And I agreed with the disappointment, which made my mother feel really bad and she decided to organize a party for me. With the help of my lovely Dheeraj Uncle, we planned to organize a small party in his friend’s restaurant. It was happening in real life, I was very excited. The party was hosted in Double Decker Lounge at Durbar Marg. I invited my friends Ashwith, Aajanya, Anaya, Swopnil, Simrik, Chewang, Aashna, Bidhata, Medhanshi, Krishika, Aayuja, Reha, Prasoya and Tejaswi. And from my relatives grandfather, grandmother, sister, brother, uncle, aunt, etc. 

We had a lot of fun. We played, ate, danced, sang, etc. First we had popcorn and then mo-mo, pizza, french fries, chicken popcorn, veg pakoda, etc. We also hosted a little program of talent shows. Some of my friends danced, some sang, and some even did a quiz. We also did a gift opening session which was a lot of fun. The gifts that I got were Lego Technic, Toy Buggy, Squishy Pistol handmade, football, Cup, Gun set, clothes etc. After that we clicked some pictures in different poses, and cut a cake. When dinner was ready, we all sat together to eat. We had Chicken Biryani but some of my friends did not like it. I enjoyed it till my tummy was full. Since I was very hungry, I forgot to ask my friends if they had eaten properly or not. We also had ice cream after dinner and continued playing. Our party ended at 6 PM and every one returned home with their parents with a return gift which included disco pencil, creative pencil holder and a stamp. 

I would like to thank all my friends who came to the party, Double Decker Lounge, Dheeraj Mama and especially to my beautiful mamu and handsome papa.
