MCC - how beneficial is it for Nepal’s development
- Nishan Shrestha - 25008, Grad ... 21 March, 2022

MCC (Millenium Challenge Corporation) is a US Foreign aid agency in which the US invests for the development of under-developed countries. As Nepal is a country which depends upon other countries, financial help is very important for the sake of development. The contract of MCC in Nepal was signed in August 2017 in Washington, DC at the state department’s treaty room by Nepal's Finance Minister Mr. Gyanendra Bahadur Karki under the current prime minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and acting CEO of MCC Mr. Jonathan Nash. In the agreement it was confirmed that the US would provide 500 million US dollars for the development of Nepal. The main motive of MCC is to make the country developed. Though there are some disadvantages of MCC. China and Nepal’s relation will have a huge impact as China and the USA are “ enemies” from the past. In any case Nepal cannot go against MCC or US government.Conflict might rise up in the country which might lead to Civil war as people are not supporting MCC. So, is MCC beneficial for Nepal?

As there are ongoing conflicts in Nepal about MCC should not be passed in nepal so does this mean MCC is very bad for our country. It is the effect of social media, MCC is not that bad for Nepal. The MCC project can reduce the huge amount of poverty from Nepal as new job sectors will be established after the MCC project takes on. It will develop the infrastructure of the country. Nepal economic growth will increase. Electricity sector will be highly developed. So are the people saying MCC should not be passed true? They are not. The people saying MCC should not be passed do not have the knowledge about the benefits of MCC. Most people think that the government is selling Nepal to the USA. The USA will make Nepal its territory which is not true. They think like that because of the lack of information and social media circulating fake information. MCC will focus mainly on two projects: 1) Electricity Transmission project and 2) Road maintenance project. 300 kilometers of high voltage transmission will be constructed which will help Nepal financially as more electricity can be sold to other countries. Poor road maintenance in Nepal makes travel and transportation harder and expensive so, up to 305 kilometers of road will be periodically maintained and 100km east west highway will be upgraded so the rate of road transportation will be reduced. MCC will help the development of Nepal effectively. As Nepal is a poor country MCC is very needed for Nepal to develop. We Nepalese cannot always stay underdeveloped. We have to walk with the world in which we are lacking so MCC is a boost for our country so that we could run with the world. MCC has previously been ratified in Nepal

Health care facilities should be free
- Kriti Nepal - 24010, Grade X ... 18 March, 2022

Health care facilities are something that is important and should be equally accessible to people globally. In countries all around the world, financing the required health care facilities has become a difficult problem. Even financially stable people have a difficult time covering their entire expenses on these services, Whereas it might even drive one to extreme poverty. I feel health care facilities should be made free because it could save the lives of people. Countless people have lost their lives when it could have been saved by minimum health care facilities but they lost their life simply because it was too expensive and inaccessible.

Having free health care will make the life of all humans easier. If health care facilities are made free, it will help the people get insurance. It relieves people as they no longer will have to experience fear of needing health services but not having access due to poor financial status. Having good health care facilities will help one fulfill quality of life. When the health care services are made free of cost, the public will have easy and timely access to health care facilities, it will help the life expectancy increase. When people are exposed to free health care services, it will be less likely for them to develop a severe illness as they can get free and easy access to regular health check-ups that helps them to diagnose a disease at an early stage before it gets more serious. This helps a person to stay healthy. It will help people save money used on the expense of hospital bills and use it for other important things like quality education. The access to quality health care services is a right and not a privilege. When the people get free health facilities and services, the population gets healthier and it contributes towards the development of the economy of the nation since the population can work harder. Also when health care facilities are made free, the number of health care workers of a country will increase as the cost for medical studies will drop and will be affordable for all. It will also help the population get access to advanced, complicated and fast health care which could only have been accessible from an emergency room that would cost a lot of money. It will also reduce the unhealthy competition between hospitals that care only about the income and not more of the patients. When the healthcare facilities and services are made free of cost, it will help the people from poor financial status to access the hospitals with well equipped machinery, and get good facilities.

Hence, I feel that if health services and facilities are made free, then the population will have easier life, higher life expectancy, fulfillment of quality of life, get insurance, many lives will get saved, easy access to health care services and facilities, the children will have better health since they’ll be exposed to good health services from a young age, the economy of the nation will increase, unhealthy competitions between hospitals will decrease and the number of health workers will also increase.

- Nishan Shrestha - 25008, Grad ... 18 March, 2022

Youth participation in politics in Nepal
- Niharika Chapagain - 25006, G ... 15 March, 2022

Young people are often underestimated by society because they are no longer considered as a child who needs care and support but they are not considered mature adults either. These days, the participation of youths in governmental activities or politics is found seldom and the reason may be; the society underestimating youth or young people’s lack of patriotism towards their country. In Nepal, all the representatives of government are either adults or older people who have gained knowledge about our country through experience and time, however they are not updated about this modern era and still support the older government system, which is holding us back behind as a developing country. For development new refreshing ideas and encouragement is needed which can only be provided by young people.

Throughout the world, there are many youths leading their countries towards development through their participation in the parliament, however in Nepal, it is very difficult for the young people to step up in politics due to the influence of current elder politicians who have more reputation and power in the country. In the past, it’s not that youths have not shown their interest in our governing system, however many youths were forced to step down since Nepalese people didn’t show their support to them. The rate of increase in corruption and decrease in good governance in Nepal has erased the false hope that people had made about development possibile in our country. And this is the main reason for the discouragement of young people who want to enter politics in Nepal. Currently Balen Shah an engineer and rapper has stepped up for the position of Mayor in Kathmandu and if young people like this show their eagerness to work together for our country, many positive changes can be seen in our country.

During elections, due to favoritism, people vote politicians without giving it a thought. For example, right now former prime minister of Nepal, K.P Sharma Oli is a public figure for the Nepalese people and people blindly follow him as his fan even though he might be wrong. In my view people should learn to give new capable faces an opportunity to prove themselves rather than blindly supporting politicians like our former prime minister Oli, who couldn’t bring a change in our society when he was given the chance. In my family, I had tried to make my parents understand the importance of voting for the right candidate in an election and the importance of youth, but I had failed. Nepalese people are stubborn and once when they believe something they usually don’t tend to think of other perspectives. When I asked my parents the reason why they voted for the politicians who have already had a bad reputation in our political history, the answer I got was nothing. They couldn’t provide me with a reasonable answer, rather they wanted to vote for the winning side. This type of belief is owned by almost every Nepalese person in our country.

In my opinion, right now there are no better candidates for the prime minister position in our country since young people are not allowed to step up due to the power and authority the politicians hold however for positions like Mayor, we should vote for young people who have dared to step up and support them so that they don’t lose hope. To change the beliefs of people, something big is not needed, a small step taken by someone is enough. Here, Balen Shah has taken that step for us, to change the beliefs of people that young people cannot participate in politics and if this step is appreciated and supported, change is inevitable in our country.

- Krituka Sapkota - 25005, Grad ... 15 March, 2022

Was it worth living?
- Krituka Sapkota - 25005, Grad ... 14 March, 2022

I looked at the mirror after a very long time. I was hesitant but I did it. I saw all the scars of cuts, marks all over my body. I had a mix of emotions. I didn't know how to feel either. I didn't want to feel this way, I wanted to be happy, not be insecure, I wanted to feel myself. I was tired of faking my emotions and having no one share any thoughts that was the worst part. I wish I had someone to share my feelings with, someone who could understand me and how I felt,no was there for me and helped me like I helped them. These are all the thoughts that would be on my mind. I was happy because I had not felt this way for a long time. There were some moments here and there but comparatively they were very few times I felt that way over a year. I was happy with the new me but many people were not. Seeing the new me who did  not care if someone hurts me and leaving the toxic people behind everyone started getting jealous.

Starting from first, my life was like a normal teenager who spent my day studying for good grades and was happy but my life took a turn. A different life for which I wasn't ready for or not even prepared for. My mental health started getting worse and worse daily. I started hating myself, feeling insecure about my body and every small thing anyone ever made a joke about. I started getting panic attacks, anxiety attacks but I wasn't sure why. I started getting my thoughts together and I knew why I was suffering all of sudden. I started getting bullied. I lost a lot of friends because of those bullies. I felt like changing schools which I eventually did. I thought things would get better but the popular girl at my school also bullied me which made it worse. I could not ask my parents to change my school again because I had just changed. I stopped wanting to go to school. My grades went really bad. From a student who all teachers liked and appreciated and was ready to take part in programs was suddenly a student who rarely took part in programs, quit and turned into a below average or average student. No one knew why, being in the 21st generation and most people being addicted to gadgets everyone thought I also got addicted to them. My parents were shocked to see their daughter change and fail classes and thought I was really addicted to gadgets but I  used them to distract myself from the thoughts, attacks. No one asked why I was failing, why I became rude and heartless. All everyone cared about was good grades and blamed my gadgets. No one understood why. My mental health got worse because I got menatally harassed daily by a neighbor who might be a pedophile . It was heartbreaking. I didn't know why I deserved it. Why I deserve all of it. I was scared to be alone at my house or even leave my house alone. I self harmed myself by cutting myself, punching myself. I tried killing myself. I got thoughts of jumping off my house or doing something that would end my life. Every Time I was about to do something like that at the back of my mind a thought always came “What about the things you dreamt of? What about the person you thought you would be when you were small. You have to live for yourself. You have to prove to your bullies and everyone who tried to bring you down that you are strong.” and I used to stop. Mostly when we go for advice about getting thoughts of ending our lives they tell us to think about them, our parents, our future but no one says “what about you, you have to live for yourself not anyone else”.  If I shared these kinds of things to some of my close friends they would ask me that but I didn't want to live for someone else. I wanted to live for myself. My parents came to my mind but always at second, the first thing that came to my mind was myself. I was about to almost give up but I lived for me. To prove everyone that I was strong and no one could pull me down. We moved out from that place which was great for me and my mental health. I started researching online of the possible things I could do to help me out. I started getting better. None of the things that used to haunt me bothered me anymore. I started getting better in my studies and got into a great university to be a mental therapist and help people like me and help them go through the things that I went through. Everyone going through any of these things should stand up for themselves because at the end of the day you are the only person to be for yourself.

So yes, I was worth living and ending life is not a solution. Life is a book, it has the things you are not prepared for and it's a bad chapter not a bad book.

“It's a bad day, not a bad life.” -anonymous

- Muskan Singh - 24003, Grade X ... 14 March, 2022

ऊ बोल्न सक्दैनथ्यो;

दिनभर के पढिरहेको हुन्थ्यो ;

Science is not Ethical
- Muskan Singh - 24003, Grade X ... 11 March, 2022

Science, what comes to your mind when you first listen to this word? For me I feel the study of organisms, nature, environment and space. But Carl Sagan states Science as a knowledge, way of thinking and skeptically interrogating the universe. He has been an astronomer who has found a non-profit devoted to motivating and involving the general public in space exploration. But we are not going to discuss him. In this article we are going to discuss one most important thing that every human should understand that “Science is not Ethical”.

Nowadays as we all know that there are many problems that have been arising in nature and the environment due to human emissions. Global warming is increasing and sinkholes have been made in the arctic circle through which Methane gas is being released. So we all know the answer why is this happening it's because of the scientific inventions like vehicle, bomb and so on. Many people believe that Science has been driving the whole world towards destruction but that’s not true. Science is just knowledge, a way of thinking and getting to learn, it’s not ethics and moral values. There’s a famous quote that A knowledgeable man would make a bomb but not a wise man. It means we humans are the ones that are responsible for how we should use science. If we use it properly and for the benefit of nature and people then it would get no harm. But if we become selfish and use science for our own benefit then surely it would not be good for each and everyone.

Still I feel you might not be clear about it. So let us go more deep into the topic. Let’s discover the history of science. Science was a perilous industry less than 500 years ago. One scientist believed in free thought in philosophy and science that’s why he was sentenced to death and burnt at the stake in 1600. Of course, compared to those days, now people’s perception in science has totally changed. Modern science has a significant impact on the evolution of society as a whole. Moreover, now that scientific development has become more important to society, it is continuously challenging, if not outright contradicting, long-held assumptions about our ethical principles. As a result, ethical debates must be held in order to adapt the use of scientific knowledge—specifically, new kinds of technology—to a broader context that is consistent with our civilization's founding ideals. Scientists should be concerned about the application of scientific knowledge and should address the ethical issues that arise as a result, both in general and in the context of their own work.

Nowadays people usually do the discovery for their own benefit rather than blame science for it. We humans have discovered plastic that is not decomposable science didn’t tell us to use it or to find it, we became skeptical and found it for our benefit. Similarly the atom bombs those were also discovered by the humans for their own security and to become powerful.

Albert Einstein the great scientist also once said, “Most people say that it is the intellect which makes a great scientist. They are wrong: it is a character.” So it’s important for scientists to know this thing. If they are not aware then it should be kept in the curriculum so that it would help them to become a great scientist. Thus We can conclude that Science is not Ethical.

- Smriti Lama - 25015, Grade IX ... 11 March, 2022

Sexual Education Should be Mandatory in Schools
- Remoon Gorkhali - 24004, Grad ... 10 March, 2022

Sexual education is the education given to the adolescent groups which will give them some idea about safe sex pratices and diseases related to it and how to prevent.

Sexual education should be given in schools mandatorily as it will help them in the future. It should be given as children too get curious about things and they might do something without knowing anything about it. Yes it might be a sensitive issue but it will eventually help them in the future. Our society takes this topic as a taboo as they think that this topic is impure and should not be talked about but they need to understand that this education is needed for as a lot of people have unsafe sex and at an age which is not accapteable and sometimes the girl might get pregnant and they need to either abort it or the boy and girl need to take responsibility but as they are still underage they can not do it. It not only ruin’s the parents’ lives but the child’s as well. There are also cases where a person is sexually active with different people and they get STDs and it is transfered to other people. Sexual needs are a biological need so we should not be ashamed about it and get proper education about it. School is a place where we get ideas and help us determine our future path. It is a place where people learn to walk on the right path so we also need to know things like this so we do not end up on the wrong path. They need an idea of dealing with it and what not to do. They need to know about ovulation cycle, safe days, appropriate age for them to be involved with sexual activits and about STDs and how to identify it and how to prevent it. If it is taught in school then it will also help them discard some unconventional rumors about it. Sexual education is a powerful tool to combat violence, abuse and discrimination and to promote respect for diversity. Education is a priority, it should be taught properly so that there is no blunder in the future and so that this mistake may not harm the lives of other people.

I would like to say that sex may be a sensitive topic especally in a country like ours but it is more important that some lives may be saved indirectly in the future and it also helps decrease the amount of people getting STDs.

- Jiya Sapkota - 25003, Grade I ... 10 March, 2022
