Colorism seen in our society
- Jubin Maharjan - 22026, Grade ... 22 December, 2021

Our country Nepal likes to portray itself like a place where everyone is accepted far from any sort of discrimination. When we look at other counties where there is discrimination on the basic of color, sex, etc. we get amazed. We act like just by removing the caste discrimination, and giving women education, we have solved all the discrimination in the country. We only feel so, because we have come to accept the discrimination that’s happening in the country.

Today I would like to talk about the discrimination on the basis of skin color/ fairness that happens in our country. Colorism is widely overlooked in our country. Colorism is any discrimination done against an individual on the basis of their dark skin tone. We can see the huge effects of colorism in countries like Nepal, India, Philippines, etc. In our country we feel like having a lighter skin tone makes you look better and having a darker skin tone makes you look ugly. An individual becomes a victim of colorism from their birth. When a child is born the parents want their kids to be light skin toned rather than dark. When the child grows up with a darker skin tone they are teased or bullied by calling them different names. Even during the time of marriage people look for a light skin toned bride or groom rather than a dark skin toned. This problem has been going on in our country for a long time but we all overlook it because we have come to accept it. We all want a lighter skin tone because that is what we have been taught from childhood. Even in the advertisements we can see colorism. The advertisements of beauty products have a huge impact on the growing colorism. The advertisement shows that having a lighter
skin tone will make you look more beautiful; will help you get a job or even get a marriage proposal. All these negative messages are implanted in our brains by the advertisements to sell their beauty products. We as a society need to address this problem of colorism as it can have a huge impact on the mental health of an individual. We all can remove this discrimination from society by not overlooking its effect on a person.

- Anukrama Poudel - 2022031, Gr ... 21 December, 2021

HOMOSEXUALITY IN NEPAL AND ITS CONCEPT
- Pratyush Chapagain - 23033, G ... 21 December, 2021

The term “homosexuality” refers to the experience of exclusive or nearly exclusive erotic preference for others of the same sex in fantasy and, characteristically, through realization of sexual intimacy with others of the same sex. Nepal is the first country in south Asia which recognizes transgender identities. In 2007 December 21st supreme court of Nepal gave a verdict in favor of LGBTQ+ community members. Though they got their legal identity still in Nepal it is taken as a social taboo.
There are lots of unbroken stereotypes in our society on homosexuality. Even the current situation of health sector contains many barriers that prevents target group from fully accessing and utilizing health services, geography, one’s social, cultural/religious and economic status, discrimination by health service providers, inadequate flow of information, believes in traditional healing methods and ineffective health programs and services. The nature of the violence faced by lesbian women and gays starts from family. Family stands as the the site of violence for most women and most of the gays, since it is where restriction is exerted over a woman’s sexuality and male sexual orientation, mobility, and access to resources. The extent of control ranged from silence to punishment, with emotional violence being the result of the family’s non-acceptance of the woman’s and men's sexuality and the attempt to control him/her. Families often kept the sexual orientation secret because of fear of shame and stigma as it is taken as social taboo. Lesbian women and gay men reported suppressing their identities, or disclosing in non-explicit ways, because of the fears of loss of family and violent consequences. The violence that they faced led them to experience guilt, shame, fear, anxiety, depression, and suicidal ideation. In 2012, three UN Special Rapporteurs issued a joint communication on a case where women and LGBTQ+ human rights defenders faced intimidation of and threats against, as a result of their support of a victim of domestic violence, following his/her self-identification as a lesbians or gay.
To pay respect to all the homosexual people we celebrate “ the pride month. Justifying the subject we should love and respect to all the homosexual people, lets not get bonded with our century old stereotype, even our religion give the liberty for homosexuality Mohini is the only female avataar of Vishnu, who exhibits gender variability, in one case even becoming pregnant (Vishnu as Mohini and the Preserver even procreates with Shiva, the designated Destroyer to give birth to Lord Ayyappa). Each time Vishnu, in his role as the protector of the universe, took the feminine form of the divine enchantress Mohini, the world got saved. Vishnu becomes Mohini when gender-adaptability (here it’s not masculinity but femininity)  is called for, to solve a problem. Beyond the role of the savior, the implications in dual-genderism and fluid sexuality are more analogical, wherein each person lies in the male and the female.

20 December, 2021

How does mother tongue make speaking English difficult?
- Binayak Kumar Mahato - 22025, ... 20 December, 2021

The most significant asset people bring to the task of learning a second language is their native tongue, which acts as a Language Acquisition Support System. The importance of English in today's world cannot be understated. English is one of the world's most important languages. Science, technology, commerce, economics, international politics, and diplomacy have all adopted it as their common language. Taking the data of 2021, around 1.35 billion people speak English worldwide either natively or as a second language. Chinese mandarin is supposed to be the second highest language spoken worldwide. Hindi and Spanish accounted for the third and fourth most widespread languages that year. Three out of every four English speakers are said to be non-native speakers. English is a compulsory subject in most of the countries primary and secondary schools. It is regarded as a promising and distinguished future source.

Our mother tongue is the language in which we were raised. It literally means "the language our mother taught us," or "the language we have spoken since childhood." It is said that every ten miles in Nepal, the language changes. This makes it impossible for us to speak with a standard accent because we all speak English in our own unique style. This is known as Mother Tongue Influence, which occurs when the impact of one's mother tongue on English becomes apparent.

This issue comes as a result of the vast number of vernacular language schools in Nepal. As a result, MTI affects the vast majority of Nepalese. Another factor could be that English is introduced to youngsters later in their lives. Children who begin learning a second language in early youth acquire it faster, according to studies. Learning at a higher age makes it more difficult since the children already internalize the sounds of his or her mother tongue and apply them to English, which is where the difficulty begins. Finally, it could be due to a lack of English exposure.

People enjoy making fun of those who speak with a strong MTI. It is not appropriate to do so since persons who speak English with MTI are well aware that they are speaking incorrectly. They are aware that when they speak English, others make fun of them, therefore they avoid doing so totally.

The Pursuit Of Happiness
- Aswin Siwakoti - 23014, Grade ... 20 December, 2021

Everyone wants to be happy in their life, we can literally find no one in this world who is not trying to find happiness or be happy. It is that feeling that will make us feel delighted, satisfied and will give us a reason to live and find a way more perfect life which will help us gain more happiness. They are just surviving or living in order to be happy and getting a little closer to pursuit happiness of their own. Joy, gladness, heartening, blissful, etc are the minor parts of being happy. Every human being is always looking for the opportunity, place, or anything that will make them happy. People don't really know how happiness really works. I myself have experienced this phenomenon like sometimes we feel good, some days better than feeling good and some days we feel like we are at the top of the world and taking this inversely same thing goes on with sadness.

On top of that life is really futile, whenever one tries to find happiness they always get stuck on cliffs like the streets with no way of making a pointless life, no matter how happy one can be it is pointless without the basis on what is making us happy. Rather than pursuing the source of unlimited happiness one must really involve or prioritize gaining other feelings making oneself stronger and experienced which will make it easier to achieve the happiness he/she is trying to. Pursuing happiness doesn't only mean being happy it means the feeling of pure self, one's heart feels as light as a feather that satisfied feeling, for me it's like a steal a deal kind of feeling. Following the topic, each happiness will mostly end in futility and meaninglessly being happy has no point. Gaining knowledge is a necessity but the perfect amount of knowledge is hard to find, more like what we call impossible. The same thing goes with happiness. Many people can be seen gaining knowledge about everything but what they miss is the knowledge of truth and this makes all their knowledge pointless and it's exaggerating how this connects up with happiness gaining happiness is important but without any significant base it's kinda not worthy like it's not up to that level which we expected.

Human beings like being happy but they do work that only gives them happiness for a certain amount of time more like temporarily, they gain it and it fades away and that’s it and the whole process goes on a loop until and unless one gains the wisdom on why they are pursuing happiness and how does it modulates and shifts their way of life?

- Kabin Rijal - 22010, Grade XI ... 17 December, 2021

Anime Review: Komi Can't Communicate
- Swornim KC - 2022017, Grade X ... 17 December, 2021

Komi Can't Communicate is a Japanese anime series taken from a manga series  written and illustrated by Tomohito Oda. It has been serialized in Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday since May 2016, with its chapters collected in twenty-three tankobon volumes as of October 2021.At the high school full of unique characters, Tadano helps his shy and unsociable classmate komi reach her goal of making friends with 100 people.
Hitohito Tadano is a boy who heads into his first day of high school with a clear plan to avoid trouble and do his best to blend in with others. Unfortunately, he has bad luck and fails right away as he takes the seat beside the school's Madonna Shouko Komi without knowing. His classmates now recognize him as someone to remove for a chance to sit next to the most beautiful girl in school.
Komi is universally adored and immensely popular despite her mysterious personality. However, without the knowledge of everyone, she has crippling anxiety and a communication disorder which prevents her from socializing with her classmates.
When left alone in the classroom, a chain of events forces Komi to interact with Hitohito through writing on the blackboard, as a one-way conversation. Being the first person to realize she cannot communicate properly, Hitohito picks up the chalk and begins to write as well. He eventually discovers that Komi's goal is to make one hundred friends during her time in high school while they were communicating through writing. At this end, he decides to lend her a helping hand, thus also becoming her first-ever friend.

Overall it is a very fun anime with the reaction to how komi tries to communicate with people and Hitohito trying to help komi. Its genre is Comedy, Slice of Life. Its rating is 8.26 in myanimelist.net. It is still airing. I recommend this anime to watch if you like highschool drama where the popular girl struggles to communicate with people.
