Two Major Predictions about the end of Human Existence by Stephen Hawking
- Bipan Sajwal - 24016, Grade X ... 23 November, 2022

Stephen Hawking is a great Theoretical Physicist and Cosmologist of all times. He was born on the 8th of January, 1942, in Oxford, England. He graduated in 1962, and joined Trinity Hall, Cambridge for PhD in Cosmology. He was a member of the Institute of Astronomy in Cambridge in 1968. He discovered the second law of Black Hole dynamics and he proposed the four laws of Black Hole mechanics. He was awarded the Dannie Heineman Prize, the Maxwell Prize, etc. He was even appointed as a professor in gravitational physics in 1977 and he received the Albert Einstein Medal and an honorary doctorate from the University of Oxford.

We all know that Stephen Hawking is a great scientist; he made some very dangerous predictions about the end of the existence of human civilization on earth. According to him, humans will be responsible for the end of the existence of human civilization from the earth because humans themselves are trying to make human civilization more advanced.

Two of his main and very dangerous predictions about the end of the human civilization are as follows:

Alien Contact:
The multiverse is a term that scientists use to describe the idea that beyond the observable universe, other universes may exist as well. According to the research of Stephen Hawking, we are not the only ones who exist in the multiverse. There are lots of galaxies in the universe where the possibility of life exists. There are many more civilizations in the multiverse with which we haven’t been able to communicate yet. Those that live in other galaxies or on other planets are known  as Aliens in our language. Nowadays many space research centers are sending signals to space in order to find Aliens and use their new technologies to make our technologies more advanced. We are thinking in a positive way but, what if they are really more advanced than us and at the same time very aggressive? What if they really don't want to make good relations with humans? They could attack on earth; they could try to dominate humans like we dominate other living beings on the earth. They could destroy the earth or clearly they could even want to remove  the existence of human civilizations from earth. So, in my opinion, we shouldn’t send signals to the aliens. This, as a result, may lead to the end of the human civilization from earth…

Nuclear war:

Nuclear war refers to the war among countries with the help of nuclear weapons. According to Stephen Hawking, if humans really want to prevail with their existence on earth then we should destroy and stop making nuclear weapons because in contemporary society, we mostly hear news about the conflict between two countries and their war updates. Sometimes, a small war also tries to cause massive destruction. We can take the example of WORLD WAR II (WW II). In the Second World War, two atom bombs were launched by America on two beautiful states of Japan, Nagasaki and Hiroshima. It is believed that the radiation of the atom bombs are still found in the newborns who still happen to have some kind of disability due to it. Nowadays, science has developed even mor: nuclear weapons are also updated with more destructive power. Most of the countries in the world produce nuclear weapons which are very dangerous for the existence of human life. So we shouldn’t promote nuclear war and must stop making nuclear weapons; we have more advanced weapons these days to cause even more harm than what happened in the past. It is believed that the nuclear weapons  of the contemporary period are 3333 times more powerful than what they were before; so, we should think about it and must be careful about producing nuclear weapons.

- Pusparaj Dhungana - 24058, Gr ... 22 November, 2022

Indian Premier League (IPL): Boon or Bane?
- Pranjal Khatiwada - 23030, Gr ... 22 November, 2022

The latest defeat of India in the semi-final of the T20 World Cup has cricket fans scratching their heads: has the IPL which started back in 2008 really revolutionized their T20 cricket or has it just been the opposite of that? Since the IPL started, India hasn’t won any imajor ICC T20 tournament and that has been an area of discussion for many cricket enthusiasts.

Let us start with England first; the current, two times limited-over champions. After the humiliating defeat in the 2015 ODI World Cup, they planned to innovate a form of cricket where they did not just rely on the senior pros who were just in the team for their names, but also, they brought in some young fresh faces into the group. They started a brand of fearless cricket. They groomed their players from the beginning to play a simple and natural form of cricket, and to express themselves in every way they could. Suddenly, after this change, they started getting results. They became a formidable side in limited-overs. The team who were knocked out by Bangladesh in the group stage of the 2015 World Cup were scoring more than 400, which seemed almost impossible in the cricketing world. Suddenly, they had match winners in everyone. Each player on the team could have won the match on any given day. They groomed their all-rounders in the domestic circuit and were the only team to have batting down to number 11; and,  in many ways, this change in their side helped them to play a brand of fearless cricket leaving other teams behind and gaining an elite level.

Now, let's talk about India, a country where cricket flows in everyone's veins. They have facilities, enough money, and every possible cricket infrastructure that we could imagine to play cricket. Even with all of this, they are still thirsting to get their hands on a T20 trophy! So, what is the relationship between IPL and India not winning? The simple reason could be, they are not thinking and utilizing their resources in players from the IPL. IPL has undoubtedly produced a lot of young talents in the country and has set a high standard for players to play a professional brand of cricket. And that has helped in building players, but not teams. The Indian Cricket Team is based on names, not on young players who can actually perform. They are still playing that old-fashioned cricket where they rely heavily on some players and are not performing as a team. The players produced by IPL are way good enough to play professionally, but they are still behind the line of players of the past which has resulted in their underperformance. IPL has been just seen as a money-making tournament rather than a team-building tournament. Even with the new players coming forward, they are not allowing them in the national team and are still stuck with the old goats, which when you compare with England, they have done just the opposite of that. Also, the players from other nations are participating in this tournament thinking to build them professionally, and they are reaping a lot of rewards on the international stage whereas sticking with an old-fashioned form of cricket that has hurt India in recent years.

All in all, IPL has been wonderful for teams and players who are looking forward to improving themselves and playing a new brand of cricket. And in contrast, it has been a money-making business that has left those teams suffering in their pool of wealth.

Bullying
- Samikshya Dahal - 24053, Grad ... 18 November, 2022

Bullying is when someone is mistreated, violently dominated, or intimidated by the use of force, compulsion, harsh taunting, or threats. The actions are frequently repeated and ingrained. It makes the person who is bullied insecure and to some extent depressed. They also develop an issue of anxiety and frustration. Bullying is generally a continuous process of harassment with no one incident.
Bullying may happen almost everywhere in or around the school, while it could happen more often in physical education classrooms and during extracurricular activities like lunch-time or other breaks. Bullying may also occur in group projects, extracurricular activities, and classrooms that demand group effort, as well as in restrooms, school buses, and bus stops. Bullying in the classroom occasionally involves a group of students taking advantage of or isolating one particular kid or someone meek while winning the support of onlookers who wish to avoid being the next victim. Bullying can be carried out singly or in groups. In cases of group bullying, the bully may have one or more supporters who are eager to help the main bully or who support the bully by giving them positive reinforcement, such as encouragement with laughter. Bullying is broken down into four categories of abuse: verbal, physical, cyber, and psychological.
Verbal harassment, physical violence, or threats may be used to establish such dominance, and such actions may be frequently focused at specific targets. Bullying can be justified by disparities in socioeconomic class, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, conduct, body language, personality, reputation, ancestry, strength, size, or aptitude, or occasionally by the bully's own insecurities towards the one being bullied. Bullying victims are more likely to experience persistent emotional and behavioral issues. Bullying can result in isolation, despair, anxiety, low self-esteem, and an increased risk of sickness. Young children who are targets of bullying and who have also been bullies themselves have been proven to demonstrate even more social issues as a result of bullying. Bullying is also connected to eating disorders, anxiety, body dysmorphia, and other detrimental psychological repercussions, according to a mental health report. There is evidence that both victims and offenders display increased degrees of loneliness. It is a very serious issue as it causes mental health problems in people as mentioned earlier.
So how can it be prevented? Bullying can be prevented by arranging campaigns and rallies which encourage the bullied people to come forward with their stories. Doing so, the bully can be rightfully punished for their actions. Excluding that there are also mental health helplines in which people can call to talk about it including other crises and problems. But instead of doing something against it, the common reaction is just attempting to ignore it. Ignoring it frequently has little effect on the bullying's persistence and may get worse over time. The earlier bullying behavior is addressed, the easier it may be to manage it as it develops. Bystanders are crucial in combating bullying since inaction might encourage it to persist, whilst tiny efforts taken in opposition to the conduct can lessen it.
So instead of just ignoring it, one can go up against the bullies, or approach a higher authority who can help them fight against it. We should all help in raising awareness against bullying.

माया
- Shubham Rimal - 23065, Grade ... 18 November, 2022

Designing My Life With Skepticism Of Science And Innocence Of Arts
- Arpan Acharya - 23010, Grade ... 17 November, 2022

“It is in Apple’s DNA that technology alone is not enough—it’s technology married with liberal arts, married with the humanities, that yields us the results that make our heart sing.” - Steve Jobs

I’ve seen aspiring scientists getting motivated seeing a picture of Stephen Hawkings, a picture of Richard Feynman and so on; I’ve also seen artists getting inspired seeing a picture of Curt Cobain, Taylor Swift or an image of Aruna Lama. But personally, I have this feeling for this one picture where Rabindranath Tagore and Albert Einstein stood together and it is as if they are radiating some positivity towards me. The following article is based on this feeling of positivity from the junction of sobriety of Science and the beautiful and fragile essence of arts:

Just like the way I believe that there should be completely scientific people and some other people completely affiliated with social sciences, I also believe that there should also be people with a blend of both of these subjects: My point is that such people should learn and develop the skills of understanding scenarios. To know where to speak on a factual basis, be it all in terms of pure logic or mathematics; theories and laws get priority, where paradoxes and conjectures also deserve some attention. Myths deserve the least of our concerns. Saying this, such people should also know where to wander and get lost in the realm of poetic and artistic avenues where for a certain time everything negates logic and defies the laws of physics.

Knowing the ‘gravity’ of gravity in different equations, knowing the gravity of words in poems, knowing the gravity of details in paintings and knowing the gravity of nuances in acting and many more, I can state that Gravity itself becomes a great deal in both science and liberal arts. I made the above statement improvising from the things that my physics teacher once said which I enthusiastically agree with: We have to understand the weightage of the very small trivial importance of subjects or we may say quanta elements that make up the field of artform or branch of sciences that we are working on.

Sometimes only algebra cannot really take us where we want to go, so we have to introduce  calculus. I think there should be a switch of paradigms for a successful product. For an album to be made, I can't always pull off the whole album to be covered in one particular standard tuning: I could play it  in so many different tunings!

To be where I want to be, I know myself that I need both algebra and calculus to solve my inner equation. In the journey, I might even find a different branch of mathematics compatible with Arpan’s life equation. Or also, I can say that I need to change various modes, scales , keys and chords in order to produce quality music to compose and give a proper conclusion to my life’s music album…

Effects on Economy due to Climate Change
- Pratyush Sapkota - 24028, Gra ... 16 November, 2022

Climate change is the change in the weather and temperature and it is one of the major problems now in the modern world. The people and the planet are struggling from the effects of climate change. Many of the plants and organisms in the earth are facing difficulties in surviving. Due to this behavior of nature, the economy is being affected. The world is experiencing more rainfall in certain spots and less in others. From the irregular rainfall, the temperature of places can vary. The production of raw materials is difficult due to these factors. This is why the agricultural sector is facing a lot of difficulty all around the world. The production of the raw materials and the item itself is more expensive because the farmers that produce the raw materials have a hard time producing the raw materials due to the effects of climate change. Since climate change can bring in heavier rainfall than expected, natural disasters like flood, landslide, glaciers landslide etc are fairly common.

Natural disasters can affect the economy greatly due to loss of property, loss of human resource, loss of livestock etc. People's health can also be affected by climate change if not careful. This can cause many diseases and make human’s life difficult. For example the places where there has been really heavy rainfall, people can have various water borne diseases and where there has not been enough rainfall people can experience impure water resulting in many diseases. This can directly affect the limited human resources that are available in those places. Most of the income in Nepal is being generated from tourism. The national tourism is dependent mostly on the weather of our country. In the tourism sector, Nepal normally welcomes around two hundred thousand to six hundred thousand tourists. The tourists are here for the natural beauty and due to climate change the natural beauty is being deteriorated. This can greatly impact the economy of our country. There are many ways to control climate change. The most commonly known way to control climate change is controlling the greenhouse effect seen on the earth. This can be done by using renewable sources of energy. This is proven to help in the reduction of greenhouse gasses. Climate controlled environment chambers are used by the modern agricultural sector experts to help minimize the effects seen on agriculture. This can be a great solution but they are quite expensive. Nowadays the climate is being more and more impactful on our lives due to our living habits. Many people now have gasoline powered cars as a luxury. However this can be both harmful for the environment  and the economy because of import taxes. Natural vegetation is one of the most important assets of human life. 90% of the world is dependent on natural vegetation directly or indirectly. Hence controlling the natural vegetation according to how it was meant to be can help the humans greatly and the economy as well.

Therefore these are the reasons and the possible solutions of climate change affecting the economy.

- Nishant Adhikari - 24051, Gra ... 15 November, 2022
