No Goals, No Go
- Arunesh Manandhar - 23011, Gr ... 16 March, 2022

One of my favorite conversations starts with a question to ask people, ‘What are your goals?’ The answer can tell a great deal about a person.  Nearly, everytime, there's common among those who feel sad in their current situation, are unhappy most of their lives, and who feel as though they are going nowhere: they have no goals.

In some cases, it is simply a case of not understanding the power and presence that goals provide (and in these cases, a simple introduction is the answer.) Goal setting is easy once you understand how to do it.
With other falls, they may understand the power of goals, but they simply haven’t taken the time or effort to set any (or to update their last batch of goals.) It is important to set new goals as soon as you achieve your car lies over, otherwise your car loses momentum. Others claim to be “going with the flow” (which often means drifting not going nowhere) and waiting for inspiration to strike.

A person without a vision is like a ship afloat on the water. Sure, it might be a fun ride, you may get to relax a bit, but next thing you know, a couple of months have gone off and you are now running out of rations, clean water, sunscreen and sanity.
But a ship with a destination in mind travels with passion and purpose, and continues progress. When you have clear, concise goals, the universe can then deliver exactly the clues you require to follow your course and reach your destination.

Do not wait for inspiration because inspiration is waiting on you, right now at this very moment. Create a vision. Involve your passion, as for a sign. You will get one. But if you do not select a destination, do not be surprised if you just keep drifting in limbo and then you have no right to whine about how “nothing is happening” because that part is ultimately up to you and you never lose a destination! Be brave, be daring, be confident and have faith in you, whatever you ask for, you can have. Go for it!

What I learned During Lockdown
- Suprabha Thami - 23043, Grade ... 15 March, 2022

Getting ready for the new year 2020, expecting it to be a memorable experience and journey, what I was planning but the outbreak of the coronavirus shattered it all. It was the end of the year 2019 and we were getting ready for the new academic year. There was news about the lockdown occurring due to the virus, but it was quite unexpected to last for long.

Upon hearing the news of the lockdown, my family decided to go to our village. At first I was not aware of the situation and not sure of what to expect but I got the hang of it after a week or so after settling there. Since my father started a poultry farm I was pretty busy taking care of the birds and animals. I got to experience different types of things during lockdown, since I was in my village. There were more places to visit without having the fear of catching the virus. Luckily, no one we knew got infected with the virus.

Apart from all that, online classes were a new experience. Taking care of the poultry was also an amazing experience and it taught me patience and some new ways to see those animals and work with it. Since I was not completely isolated at home, I was not so bored from being inside. Although the news of globally affected people and their deaths were terrifying,  the good thing was none of the known ones were infected. We were lucky to not catch the virus as many were there who fought for their lives, some succeeding and some not. All we hope for is everyone’s safety and the pandemic to end.

Nazism and Stalinism
- Aashrab Khanal - 22001, Grade ... 15 March, 2022

Historical events are the result of political forces driven by distinct ideologies in different periods of time. The two most prominent political ideologies of the 20th century were Nazism and Stalinism. These two ideologies emerged in the first half of the twentieth century and caused rapid change in the political affairs of the age. The study of Nazism and Stalinism is prominent in historical terms because of their immense impact on various aspects of human society.

Stalinism is understood as the ideology and policies adopted by Stalin, based on centralization, totalitarianism, and the pursuit of communism. Nazism, on the other hand is the ideology and practices associated with the Nazi Party in Nazi Germany characterized by disdain for liberal democracy along with fervent antisemitism, anti-communism and scientific racism. Nazism and Stalinism were fundamentally opposed to each other in terms of their view of communism. This culminated in the war between Soviet Union and Nazi Germany in the Second World War. The differences are not the focus of study but the similarities are. Looking back, we can analyze the similarities between Nazism and Stalinism based on their political views, way of ruling and soon.

Some authors have drawn parallels between Nazism and Stalinism as they compared and contrasted the two philosophies and political systems, as well as the relationship between the two regimes. They have questioned why both rose to popularity at the same time. On ideology, and personality cult, Nazism and Stalinism were compared throughout the twentieth century. Both regimes were viewed as being in opposition to the liberal-democratic Western world which emphasizes their commonalities. The prominent methods used by operatives of Nazism and Stalinism are referred to as ‘indoctrination’ and ‘propaganda’. Indoctrination was targeted specifically towards one's own citizens and propaganda was used to craft a narrative to be disseminated to the outside world.

Totalitarian leaders like Hitler and Stalin really believed that they were working in the best interests of their people. The Nazis were cruel in their treatment of the inhabitants of the occupied territories. They attempted to depopulate Eastern Europe to make space for occupiers from the German master race . Stalin regularly purged the Communist Party of the Soviet Union of anyone who deviated even slightly from the party line, even if it affected the party or the Soviet government, since he considered they represented the interests of "dying classes" whose demise was historically inevitable.

- Aashrab Khanal - 22001, Grade ... 15 March, 2022

- Meemansha Acharya - 23027, Gr ... 15 March, 2022

Vladimir Putin’s Rise From KGB spy to President
- Riyaj Kuike - 23035, Grade XI ... 14 March, 2022

Born on 7th october 1952 on Leningrad present day st.petersburg Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin is the current president of Russia and has been in power for more than 20 years .Even though he stepped down as the president from 2008 to 2012 to serve as the prime minister he was still considered to be the de facto leader of Russia. He first assumed office as president of Russia in 1999 and since then he  has shaped the political, geographic and economic face of Russia. He is regarded as one of the most powerful and influential person in the world.Born to a factory worker in soviet union how did putin became so powerful and influential?

The rise of vladimir Putin starts from the fall of Soviet union .After the fall of Soviet Union the country erupted into chaos and corruption. When the berlin wall fell in 1989, Vladmir putin was working as a undercover spy in east germany for the Security agency for soviet union the KGB.Shortly after the fall of berlin wall the soviet union was also dissolved into 15 new countries .Putin was very dissatisfied with it and called it “the greatest geopolitical catastrophe of the century”.After the soviet union fell the new government under Boris Yeltsin wanted to transform Russia into free market economy so it wanted to sell thousands of factories and companies previously operated by the communist government to common Russian people. In order to sell the shares of those companies the government started giving vouchers to russian people which could be exchanged for recently privatized company .But most people in Russia had no idea of capitalism or shares so they started selling their vouchers in exchange for small amount of cash so very few of the educated russians took advantage of the opportunities and bought the vouchers form common russian people and became very wealthy .These people are called russian Oligarchs who controlled more than half of the Russian economy. The then president of Russia Boris Yeltsin was widely unpopular through russia for cooperating with the western power and he was just seen as an alcoholic who was an embarrassment for the country. So in order to stay in power in Russia he opted for the support of those oligarch giving them an immense political power.IN the other hand after the fall of soviet union putin leaves KGBin 1991 and becomes the deputy mayor of St. Petersburg .He uses this position to help his friends and allies in business. He then slowly gathers the support of wealthy Russian oligarchs, crime bosses and his fellow friends from the KGB With their help and support Putin starts to climb the ladder of power and position .Then in 1999 Boris yeltsin appointed  Putin as prime minister of Russia.Putin being a nationalist he disliked the plans and policies of Yeltsin who was letting  united states dominate russia and feared the expansion of NATO alliance to newly formed countries after the dissolution of the soviet union .So , he wanted to build a strong Russian government who was capable of excising absolute power in Russia and also influence and control the neighbouring countries. His power grew when a former region of soviet union chechnya informally separated from russia and started attacking russian cities. This  killed hundreds of russians  citizens .Then the new prime minister of russia putin starts to appear on national television and promises to take revenge against the seperatist for the death of russian citizens. After that russia launches an invasion against chechnya and starts bombing various cities killing more than 80 thousand people. Then in less than a year russia brings chechnya back under its control .After this Putins popularity among the population quickly grows and putin becomes  more powerful and supported politician. Then in december 1999 Yeltsin suddenly resigned as the president of russia making putin the acting president. Then in may 2000 putin officially wins the presidential election with 53.6 % votes. After he becomes president he quickly suppresses the Russian oligarchs under his control. He also gained control of russian media and used them to depict him as a strong and loved leader .According to russian constitution a president can only serve two consecutive terms so he picked one of his friend Dimitri Medvev to serve as president from 2008 to 2012. And Putin again became president of Russia in 2012.Now Putin has a very strong grip over the Russian oligarchs,Russian military and russian Media. His regime  has also developed a strong cyber network in the world which is used to cause havoc in the world. With all these key elements under his control he has become one of the most powerful man of this century.

The Chinese Opium War
- Ishan Raj Upadhyay - 22008, G ... 14 March, 2022

The opium Wars were two violent confrontations in China in the mid-nineteenth century between Western troops and the Qing dynasty, which reigned from 1644 to 1911/12. China and Britain fought the first Opium War (1839–42), while Britain and France battled China in the second Opium War (1856–60), also known as the Arrow War or the Anglo-French War in China. Foreign powers emerged in each case, gaining commercial benefits as well as legal and territorial concessions in China. The disputes ushered in an age of unequal treaties and other encroachments on Qing sovereignty, which contributed to the dynasty's weakening and eventual overthrow in favor of republican China in the early twentieth century.China's attempts to stop the opium trade led to the Opium Wars. Since the 18th century, foreign traffickers (mostly British) have been illegally trafficking opium from India to China, but the trade exploded after 1820. The widespread addiction that resulted was wreaking havoc on China's social and economic systems. In April 1839, the Chinese authorities seized and burned more than 20,000 chests of opium—roughly 1,400 tons of the drug—stored by British merchants in Canton (Guangzhou). In July, a drunken British sailor murdered a Chinese farmer, heightening tensions between the two sides. The British government refused to hand over the accused individuals to the Chinese because it did not want its people to be prosecuted in the Chinese judicial system.Later that year, when British warships demolished a Chinese blockade of the Pearl River (Zhu Jiang) estuary at Hong Kong, hostilities erupted. Early in the year 1840, the British government resolved to deploy an expeditionary force to China, which landed in Hong Kong in June. After months of discussions, the British navy sailed up the Pearl River estuary to Canton, where they assaulted and seized the city in May 1841. Despite a concerted counterattack by Chinese troops in the spring of 1842, further British assaults over the next year were also successful against the weaker Qing forces. The British, on the other hand, resisted the attack and took Nanjing (Nanking) in late August, putting an end to the conflict.Peace talks moved fast, culminating in the signing of the Treaty of Nanjing on August 29. Its stipulations required China to pay a hefty indemnity to the United Kingdom, hand over Hong Kong Island to the British, and raise the number of treaty ports where the British may trade and dwell from one (Canton) to five. Shanghai was one of the four more authorized ports, and the city's metamorphosis into one of China's main commercial entrepots began with the city's increased access to foreigners. On October 8, 1843, the British Supplementary Treaty of the Bogue (Human) conferred British people extraterritoriality (the right to be prosecuted by British courts) and most-favored-nation status (Britain was granted any rights in China that might be granted to other foreign countries).

- Binayak Kumar Mahato - 22025, ... 14 March, 2022
