- Manisha Gurung - 22030, Grade ... 21 April, 2022

- Ojeshwi Gurung - 23029, Grade ... 21 April, 2022

Myths of Goddess Kumari in Nepal
- Gauri Shreya Shahi - 23055, G ... 20 April, 2022

Nepal is a country with gods and goddess and maybe because of that our culture is much attached and even formed in relation to our religion (gods and goddess). Worshiping of Kumari is not new in Nepal, as it dates back to the 17th century or might be much older. There is evidence of virgin worship in Nepal that dates back more than 2300 years and is popular among the hindus and even buddhists. King Jayaprakash Malla, the last King of Nepal in the Malla dynasty (12th-17th centuries AD), is mentioned in most stories related to Kumari. According to the myth, he was playing the dice game Tripasa, so the King and his friend Goddess Taleju approached his room late one night. Every night, the goddess came to play the game, provided that the King didn’t tell anyone about their encounter.

One night, the King’s wife accompanied him to his room and wanted to know who the King met so frequently. Goddess Taleju was furious when she saw the King’s wife. She instructed the King that if he wanted to see her again or have her protect his country, he would have to search for her among the Newari (Shakya) community of Ratnawali, as she would be incarnated as a little girl among them. King Jayaprakash Malla left the palace in search of the young girl who had been possessed by Goddess Taleju’s spirit, hoping to make amends with his patroness, or benefactor.

There is also another story of Taleju’s disappearance. Some people say that she visited the King every night in the human form. Like these legendary stories, one of them says that the King and the Goddess discussed the state of the country while playing Tripasa (dice) and it is said that the King had dirty thoughts, or made sexual moves toward the Goddess one night. As a result, the enraged Goddess ceased coming to the palace, and the King worshiped and prayed for her to be back in sorrow. Finally, the goddess accepted to take on the body of the Shakya family’s virgin daughter.

Even today, if a mother's dream is of a red serpent then it is thought to be a sign that her daughter would be promoted to Royal Kumari. At the annual Indra Jatra ceremony, the King seeks the blessing of the Royal Kumari. This practice has changed since 2008 A.D. when the country became one of the world's youngest republics.

According to a third version of the mythology, a young girl was expelled from the city during the reign of King Jayaprakash Malla because it was suspected that she was possessed by the goddess Durga. When the queen learned about the young girl's predicament, she was furious and demanded that the king bring her back and install her as Durga's living avatar.

Kumari is now established as a prestige of Hindu and Buddhist culture, religious values. There are lots of myths regarding the start of Kumari, who initiated, how it came into action, but one thing is real that this is more related to our culture and society.

Nazi’s Treatment on Jews
- Aashrab Khanal - 22001, Grade ... 20 April, 2022

A war is defined by the number of atrocities brought on by it. Remembering the times when men let themselves be overtaken by their dark shadows, sends shivers down our spines. Of the uncountable wars in the history of mankind, the Second World War stands among a few , differentiated by the volume of atrocities committed. The treatment of Jews in hand by the Third Reich is a clear example of our capability to practice the deepest part of our twisted psyche.

The rise of Hitler’s regime is connected to the downfall of the German Jewish population. After the First World War, Germany suffered in all forms mainly economic and also from the blame put on them for the war. In the post war period, the democratic system of Germany couldn’t bring about the proper change needed. The country was politically divided and radicalized by the rise of fringe ideologies. The economic turmoil pushed people to support either the Communists or the Nazis. The Nazis approached the German populace by providing a suitable scapegoat for their country’s problem mainly the Jews. This tactic proved effective as the Nazis soon became the ruling party. Their vision of a greater and purer Germany included the elimination of all Jews and so they began their crimes. In January 1933, Germany had 522,000 Jews and during the first six years of the Nazi rule, about half of these people are known to have left the country. The Nazi rule had brought fundamental change in social, economic, and communal aspects of Jewish life in Germany between 1933 and 1939. Six years of Nazi-sponsored legislation had marginalized the Jewish citizens, driving them out of livelihood. As of early 1939 less than 20% of the Jewish population had permanent employment. The Nazi unleashed their hatred in the fullest following the the aftermath of Kristallnacht in November 1938 when thousands of Jews wereimprisoned in concentration camps and their businesses were destroyed.

The Nazi’s atrocities against the Jewish populace didn’t stop in Germany but spread throughout the occupied places all over Europe. In total, 6 million Jews perished in the name of fulfilling  the Third Reich’s Dreadful visions of the world. These types of atrocities are not just for documentation and discussion but a major aspect to understand the depths of our dark minds.

पानी
- Diya Bajracharya - 23021, Gra ... 20 April, 2022

Is it okay to use animals in a circus?
- Ishu Shiwakoti - 22009, Grade ... 19 April, 2022

Animals should not be used for entertainment purposes as have been used in circuses. Animal-free performances should be given more priority and using animals should be discarded. It  is unethical to use animals just because they can’t speak or share their pain. We, as a human being, considered as intelligent one, must ensure animal safety in context to circuses or any kind of shows.

Using animals is unethical because animals are forced to perform tricks against their will. Animals are compelled to follow the given task no matter what. Trainers in some circus and shows mostly use whips and other mediums to force animals to perform and learn tricks. Animals should not be treated in this manner because it is cruel, and inhumane and against the law, as animals have rights too. Frequent cruel punishment they endured to learn the tricks, they snap and go on reckless rampages, putting many people's lives in danger.

The reason behind using animal tricks is people find those tricks more entertaining and interesting as well, once it is stopped they would stop going to the circus, in shows because the animals are usually the main attraction in many shows. Many people would lose their jobs, and many more would lose a significant amount of money. Because of these reasons, the use of animals is increasing rather than decreasing. But to earn money, secure a job humans don’t have the right to use animals and harm them. There are different ways to attract people, one shouldn’t rely on animals.

To sum up, animal circuses should be prohibited as it shows the cruelty towards the animals by using vile tools to force them to perform tricks and endangering the lives of innocent bystanders. Main purpose of the circus is to entertain rather than educate, but this can’t be ignored, the impact of seeing wild animals perform unnatural tricks does not instill a sense of respect or appreciation towards animals among childrens. Circuses, on the other hand, teach children that it is acceptable to exploit and mistreat animals for amusement. To avoid this we as human beings should act wisely and eliminate this inhumane act.

Trust your intuition.
- Arpan Acharya - 23010, Grade ... 19 April, 2022

The times when some students struggle in studies, their parents hire them tutors, instructors to cope with. But the question arises, what should we do when we struggle in life? Whom should we hire, whom should we plead for help? Most of us will be in some sort of dilemma. But, as there is saying, where there is will there is a way, in relation to this, well there's one tutor that is lying inside all of us all the time: Intuition, the insider that we most of the time treat as a stranger. The word intuition if we break it down, in simple terms it will sound like inner tuition. An inner tutor. To quote Albert Einstein, the most genius mind once stated that the intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honors the servant and has forgotten the gift. Yes in this world there are several people who just honor the servant and do not see the blissful gift. Such people have crazy numbers of mentors, such people when they get in trouble have no helping hands except a bunch of advice which push them deeper into confusion and away from the solution. Intuition is a beautiful sense that acts spontaneously without quenching the thirst of whys but creates a response full of confidence and calmness. We all know that when we are given a chance to choose between several choices, it comes with a lot of distress to pick one. Likewise when in times of trouble the questions that we ask people in the pursuit of solutions, we tend to be consumed with thoughts much more than before because of different people, different experiences. With a lot of thoughts revolving on the mind that lead us to anxiety and indecision. These times are the times where using an intuitive approach is the best. This will make you calm, present in the moment and gentle with the problem. A huge malpractice about intuition is that people confuse intuition with predictions. Knowing what will occur in the future, reading people’s minds etc is certainly not intuition.

Intuition is something out of the box, it gives you all you need to get started to follow what seems to be right even though it is against all the odds. Intuitive approach doesn’t bother you to work on things that the prejudices of people, social conventions and even common sense tend to be against off. And even sometimes when the intuition driven decisions may be wrong, it enables you to perceive whatever life throws up on you.

It helps you gain trust from yourselves. You will be your own boss and there will be no need for a therapist because following your intuition is therapeutic in itself.

Our education system has always talked badly about the value of intuition and the benefits of cultivating intuitive skills. Initially as children we all have intuitive skills, no boundaries with imagination. As adults, taking an intuitive approach makes people label you as “childish” which is completely wrong.  Yes facts and logic are very important, but life as a whole needs you to step aside from the bulky data and follow your intuition.

- Aashrab Khanal - 22001, Grade ... 19 April, 2022
