My Lucky Bracelet
- Akshita Bhattarai - 32039, Gr ... 13 December, 2023

I have had a bracelet since I was 3 years old. But, I actually started wearing it when I was 5. One day I started wearing it, and good things and somehow lucky things started to happen ever since. I don’t know if it is a coincidence but whenever I forgot to wear it to school bad things would happen. So, I started to always wear it. By that, I mean when I sleep, when I eat, when I brush my teeth and when I go to school! And every single bit of life. Ok, but who got it for me ? My dad did. He went to Pokhara for a vacation and brought me this. I have had 2 of these so far. They both still work the same, except the second one is not as lucky as the first one. I made the same colour scheme for both of the bracelets. So they kind of look identical. I forgot to tell you what happened to my first lucky bracelet! Well, it tore. But as soon as it tore we got a new one ! My family also knows that this is my lucky bracelet and let me wear it all the time!

Well, one bad thing was, I had a habit of biting the strands of my bracelet. My father told me I could get sick because of that. But soon enough, I stopped. My friends also know about the bracelet. So they don’t bug me about it or try to take it off. Once when I was taking my ITF test, (this was when I had the first bracelet) our teacher asked me if my bracelet was permanent. I said yes because I did not want to take it off .I remember that time. And I really got away with it and did the test with my bracelet!

Dashain
- Prasumi Sharma - 31050, Grade ... 12 December, 2023

Dashain, also called Vijaya Dashami, is an important Hindu festival celebrated in Nepal and India. It lasts for 15 days and usually happens in September or October. People celebrate Dashain to honour Goddess Durga and her victory over the demon Mahishasur. It's not just a religious event but also a time for happiness and joy.

Here are the main parts of Dashain:

Ghatasthapana: The festival starts with Ghatasthapana. Barley seeds are planted in a small area in the worship room. These seeds grow into barley grass, used for worshipping the nine Hindu goddesses. The first day is dedicated to worshipping Shailputri.

Second to Sixth Days: These days involve the daily worship of different goddesses. The second day is for the goddess Brahmacharini, followed by Chandraghanta on the third day, Kushmanda on the fourth, Skandamata on the fifth, Katyani on the sixth, and Kalaratri on the seventh. The seventh day marks the entrance of Fulpati.

Eighth and Ninth Days: These days focus on worshipping Goddess Durga. Maha Gauri and Siddhidatri are the avatars revered these days. On the eighth day, people traditionally offer animal sacrifices like goats, buffaloes, and chickens to Devi Durga. On the ninth day, weapons like knives are worshipped.

Dashami: The final day of Dashain is called Dashami. Elders put tika on the foreheads of younger family members, who then receive blessings. The Tika celebration lasts until the fifth day, known as Purnima. People wear new clothes, and families come together to spend time. Dashain is a vibrant celebration that combines religious traditions, family bonding, and cultural customs, making it a significant and joyful event for Hindus.

किसानको महत्त्व
- Saphal Pokharel - 31052, Grad ... 11 December, 2023

My Experience of Open Mic
- Aayaan Rai - 31006, Grade V o ... 08 December, 2023

Open Mic is a programme at my school where students can showcase their talents, and this was my second time participating. This term, it was on the 7th of December. In my previous Open Mic, I sang "Memories." This time, I teamed up with Pratyush and Pranav, and we added Drishya as our lead singer. I took on the role of playing the cajon. Together, we decided to perform ACDC's "TNT," and we were all excited about it.

When I got home, my first task was to practise the drum beat of the song. Once that was done, I diligently tackled my homework before going back to rehearse the drum beats. I was ready for the big day.

On the day of the performance, I met Pratyush, and we eagerly searched for Drishya. It turned out his bus was late, causing some stress for our group. We had initially planned to sing "Indreni," but another group had already chosen that song. Time was ticking, and we needed an alternative.

Drishya suggested "Past Lives," but Pranav and Pratyush did not know the chords, and I was not familiar with the beat. Luckily, Mauri's group invited us to join them to sing "We Will Rock You." With Pranav and Pratyush knowing the chords and me familiar with the beats, we gladly accepted.

Our performance of "We Will Rock You" was met with cheers from the audience. Afterward, we were asked to perform it again, and even some teachers, including Yukta ma’am, Reshika ma’am, and Sapana ma’am, requested that we perform "Memories" once more.

After a brief practice, we performed "Memories'' as the last act of the Open Mic. The applause was heartening. After the programme, we gathered outside the school. While chatting with Raj and Ritvik, Ritvik’s mom offered us chicken patties, thinking we might be hungry. Eventually, my mom and Raj’s mom arrived, and as we said our goodbyes, Raj invited me to join him and Aashutosh for another DSN.

I agreed, and with that, we parted ways, looking back on a memorable Open Mic experience.
