Caging the Light
- Aarav Timilsina - 26028, Grad ... 27 June, 2023

The dark and long nights of winter were soon very common in the bustling city of Arkensel. The city roared loudly during the day, the stomping of boots and the so obnoxious bargaining at the city square, but at night the city seemed abandoned, wretched even. The windows with no light now were laid with dust and grime. The shrews and other rodents scurried along the street, their grimy paws settling at any piece of rotten mould they could find. The city could not look so charming if it were not for what they call the ‘whispers of the wind’, that was the name given to the little girl who sat atop the church  clinging onto the church spire she hummed carols and tales. Even wind guides her sonorous voice to the houses of civilians, shushing infants to sleep and to bear with the ones who go through sleepless nights. No force stops her, the rain she wipes away, the wind she shields herself from and to the beat of the thundering she dances, yet she still sings, but why ? Why must she cradle others to sleep while she herself tires her throat. None have met the girl or even inquired about her, the nuns at the church say they have never heard of this little girl and that she must be from the slums. Her name, her identity they never knew but they all knew that she was the spirit of the City.

Lady Beatrice, owner of the most profound and preferred liquor brand in the city and also the Lady of the Wellington Manor grew extremely curious about the singing voice. She herself on many occasions had been nursed back to health by that magical soothing voice. Lady Beatrice herself was quite rich being the spouse of one of the richest noblemen in the city and managing a quite famous chain of taverns and already had a son of age 9, but she dreamt of a lovely, noble daughter to take care of, one that could make her smile, one that could soothe all her problems and make her feel at ease. It wasn't long until she realised she already had a girl who filled up her expectations. The whispering voice, she had never seen or heard of the voice but she hoped she could keep it. Her dreams existed only from the pleasure from the voice. For the next few days, she peered over the barrage of houses just to get the glimpse of the glowing outline of the girl. Lady Beatrice finally decided it was time to go meet the whispering voice. She waited around in the church, pretending to be in serious prayer if someone inquired and of course no one would dare disturb such a loyal servant of God, not even the nuns, as the heavenly gates closed behind her aching back Mrs Wellington quickly got up and ran up the spiral staircase to the balcony. She waited for a while, her eyes locked upon the huge ornamental compass placed upon the cathedral where the girl stood and delivered her magic.
Soon, with the soft whipping of the air a glowing figure appeared out of nowhere and for a split second rode the winds. The girl wore the most translucent and petite gown that was draped around her body. She landed on the spire as delicately as a feather touching the water. Her small feet were as beautiful as lotus buds and her face gave the same glow as the moon. Lady Beatrice was stunned to encounter such a goddess. She stood there grasping the ends of her shawl and slightly quivering. The Whisper looked at her with her big, blue eyes and whispered “Come Closer” letting out a hand for her. She let go of the shawl and let it flow into the wind as the Whisper pulled her into the spire. Lady Beatrice was now face to face with the reason she sleeps so sound. The goddess began singing in her heavenly voice again, captivating Lady Beatrice and mesmerising her. After she was finished, Lady Beatrice said to her “You have an incredible voice, young lady. You have aided my sleepless nights and soothed me for which I am indeed grateful for. I want you for myself, for you to sing me to sleep outside my window, please , I will treat you as my own daughter” The whisper slightly frowned at the end. She said “ You are indeed quite fond of me, so are everyone in this busy town, for these 8 hours I carry  their stress and burdens to make them at ease, but I am afraid I can't accept your request as I don’t work for anyone, sing to soothe myself and others around me “Lady Beatrice was not used to rejection, she was a noble after all.” She lashed out “You Idiot, I let you be in my presence, but you refuse my offer, I wont accept this” saying this Lady Beatrice grabbed at the Whisper’s hand and pulled scaring her. The Whisper floated away onto the balcony and Lady Beatrice slipped and fell to her inevitable death .      Moral : Actions have Consequences

Mobile Phones: Blessing or Curse?
- Bibechana Dangol - 30009, Gra ... 27 June, 2023

The mobile phone is an electronic device that we use in our daily lives. A mobile phone, also known as a cellular phone or smartphone, is a portable telephone that can make and receive calls. It is considered one of the greatest gifts of modern science. The mobile phone was invented by Martin Cooper and Eric Tigerstedi. Initially, mobile phones were used solely for communication. However, today we can use them for various purposes such as watching movies, listening to music, taking photographs, recording videos, booking tickets online, browsing the web, performing calculations, sending SMS messages, and much more.
Mobile phones have many advantages. They keep us connected wherever we are in the world and have made our lives easier in terms of daily activities. We can even have video chats with anyone we want, thanks to mobile phones. Nowadays, mobiles are extensively used for official work, including scheduling meetings, sending and receiving documents, submitting job applications, and making presentations. With advancements in mobile technology, entertainment is readily available at our fingertips.
However, mobile phones also have disadvantages. Excessive use can negatively impact our physical and mental health. Students often misuse them, leading to a negative effect on their studies. The widespread use of mobile phones has reduced face-to-face communication. People have become addicted to their mobile devices, spending their free time playing games, watching videos, or browsing the internet. Physical meetings have been replaced by virtual chats and comments on social media platforms. Additionally, people spend a significant amount of money on purchasing mobile phones, which can be considered a wastage of money.
A mobile phone can have both positive and negative effects depending on its usage. It has become an essential part of our lives and can be a blessing if used properly. However, if not used responsibly, it can become a curse.

- Prasiddhi Dangol - 28009, Gra ... 26 June, 2023

The Factors Contributing to Nepal's Development Challenges
- Prasanna Pokharel - 28020, Gr ... 23 June, 2023

Nepal, a landlocked country nestled between India and China, has struggled to achieve substantial development progress compared to its regional counterparts. Despite its rich cultural heritage and abundant natural resources, Nepal faces numerous challenges that impede its progress. This article aims to explore some of the key factors contributing to Nepal's lagging development and shed light on potential solutions.

Geographical Constraints:`

Nepal's mountainous terrain poses significant challenges to infrastructure development, communication, and transportation. The rugged landscape hampers connectivity between regions, making it difficult to establish robust transportation networks and access remote areas. This geographical constraint limits trade, investment, and efficient resource distribution, hindering overall development.

Political Instability:

Nepal has witnessed political instability over the years, with frequent changes in government and a long transitional period from monarchy to republic. Political instability leads to policy uncertainty, weak governance, and a lack of continuity in development initiatives. Frequent political disruptions hamper long-term planning, foreign investment, and the implementation of development projects.

Economic Challenges:

Nepal's economy heavily relies on agriculture, which is predominantly subsistence-based and vulnerable to climate change, natural disasters, and fluctuating market prices. Limited industrialization and a weak manufacturing sector result in a low level of productivity and job opportunities. The country also faces challenges in attracting foreign direct investment due to bureaucratic hurdles, insufficient infrastructure, and a lack of skilled labour.

Education and Human Capital:

Nepal struggles with a low literacy rate, inadequate access to quality education, and a lack of skilled workforce. Limited investment in education and training programs hinders human capital development, innovation, and technological advancements. The brain drain phenomenon, where skilled professionals migrate abroad in search of better opportunities, exacerbates the problem.

Social Inequality and Poverty:

Nepal grapples with high levels of poverty and social inequality, particularly affecting marginalised communities, rural areas, and women. Unequal access to resources, services, and opportunities creates disparities in health, education, and income distribution. Addressing social inequality is crucial for sustainable development and inclusive growth.

Infrastructure Deficit:

Nepal faces significant infrastructure deficits, particularly in transportation, energy, and sanitation. Insufficient road networks, limited access to electricity, and inadequate water and sanitation facilities impede economic activities, healthcare delivery, and overall quality of life. Infrastructure development requires substantial investment, which is a challenge for a low-income country like Nepal.

Natural disasters and climate change:

Nepal is vulnerable to natural catastrophes including earthquakes, floods, and landslides that may seriously harm the environment, human infrastructure, and way of life. The nation's susceptibility to the effects of climate change, such as melting glaciers and shifting rainfall patterns, exacerbates already difficult development issues and makes sustainable resource management more difficult.

Nepal's developmental challenges are multifaceted and interconnected. Overcoming these hurdles requires a comprehensive approach encompassing political stability, infrastructure development, education reform, poverty alleviation, and targeted interventions to address social inequalities. Additionally, enhancing regional cooperation, promoting private sector engagement, and harnessing Nepal's cultural heritage and natural resources can contribute to its development. With concerted efforts and strategic planning, Nepal can overcome its obstacles and embark on a sustainable path of progress and prosperity.

That Horror Place (Part-1)
- Paridhi Pant - 30054, Grade V ... 23 June, 2023

Hi! My name is Mellek. Well, in the story everyone calls me Mellow as it's my nickname. I study in Grade VI. I am going to tell you about a horror event that happened to me. I don't know if this event is believable or not, but I am going to share it.

I live in Queenstown, New Zealand, in Frankton, in a lane. My house is bigger than the other houses in the lane. I have many friends and neighbours. Emma, Joseph, and Kevin are my dearest friends. I play many games with them and stay happy. On the last day of exams, me and my friends decided to play till late. It was around 7:30 p.m. We were playing badminton. We were playing Emma's badminton. She bought it that day, and it was quite costly. We became a little tired after playing it. I said, "Let's take a little break. I am tired." "Okay, let's take a break." My friends agreed. So, we took a break. We sat on the bench and talked a little bit. After we rested, we decided to play again. Kevin said, "I think we have freshened up now. Let's start playing again." Okay, let's start," said Joseph. We took bats and tried to take shuttlecocks. When we tried to take the shuttlecock, a cat jumped on it and held it in its mouth. We tried to take the shuttlecock, but the cat ran away. Emma said, "Where's it going, taking my shuttlecock?" "I don't know; let's follow it." We followed the cat. Then what happened was that the cat ran into a deserted place where usually no one goes. When the cat went into that area, my friends and I stopped.
