Private Hospitals in Nepal: Money Machines or Real Care Givers?
- Rushav Paneru - 28018, Grade ... 24 August, 2023

Health is the most precious thing in human life. If we or anyone from our family falls seriously ill, we are always ready to spend a ton of money at hospitals to see them recover. There are cheap and affordable government hospitals in Nepal. But, due to the scarcity of facilitated, sound, and well-managed treatment, we tend to keep the sick person in private hospitals. As A Result of this, in city areas private hospitals established a good stand for themselves. Even though there is quality treatment and good overall treatment in private hospitals, they charge way more than they should. These types of complaints have been coming to light these days.

It is a common narrative that private hospitals follow many bad practices to cost-cutting and earn more profit. A good example of this is the incident where DoSM(The Department of Supply Management), closed down 57 hospitals and pharmacies because they did not have medical licences and overcharged their patients 35% more than the profit margin set by the government. Hospitals were taking huge amounts of money from the patients with the title“Service Charge '' and 13% VAT (Value Added Tax). Similarly, this whole market of Private Hospitals had earned more than 2 Trillion Nrs just by adding a huge sum of money under “Service charge”.

Many hospitals were charging huge amounts in the name of “Service Charges''. Some hospitals were charging 6 Lakh Nrs to people for minor surgeries in the name of “Service Charge”. But what can poor people do? Treatment is necessary to survive the injury or disease so the poor have to pay the money that they don't have by taking loans from many people. This kind of story happened to a person. He had to pay 12 lakhs for the treatment of his wife just in the Name of a “Service Charge ''. The total bill was 17 lakhs. And there was the added cost of surgery. He committed suicide by falling from the roof of that hospital. I mean it’s his fault also that he could not earn well. That’s a different thing. But, like 12 lakhs for the name “service charge”? Well, some hospitals are there that are actually providing quality treatment with good and reasonable prices and good doctors. Hats off to their work. But, these fraudsters? They scam people kamikaze style. Like who adds literally 12 lakhs, that’s 12,00,000 just in “Service Charge”!

Most Private hospitals are fraudsters and the government hospital has their problem. We should have a serious talk with private hospitals about this. This overcharging has to go away and all hospitals should provide reasonable healthcare to their patients. Many people have been in this situation where they have to pay huge amounts of money for service charges and end up committing suicide. That’s pretty bad. The ultimate solution is to provide quality treatment at a lower price compared to now and also reduce healthcare tax. The government should work on health service maladies.

वसन्त
- Eshanee Manandhar - 28004, Gr ... 23 August, 2023

Necessity is the mother of invention
- Agrim Rijal - 29005, Grade VI ... 23 August, 2023

All the inventions are the outcome of necessity felt in the past. The thing today was invented when people started to think about the necessity. In the stone age people felt hungry so they thought of eating by killing animals. They were not able to kill animals with bare hands so they invented bow and arrow which made it easier to hunt and get food. Then they started to think that hunting and eating might finish all the animals and they might die of hunger so they started to do farming and invented many tools which helped them in spring the seeds. Then slowly everyone started to think that animals may attack them in the night time when they are sleeping, so people invented houses so they are protected from the wild animals like tigers and lions.

People invented houses to be protected from wild animals. They made wooden houses and are unprotected from big animals like elephants and rhinos. Then they needed to build stronger houses so they could be protected and strong houses were invented. Then slowly scientists came and invented many things like electricity, through which we are able to do many works. They also invented a light bulb which makes our vision clear in the dark. The Wright brothers felt the necessity of a fast vehicle so they invented the aeroplane which is also known as the fastest means of transportation.

People were going far from their countries so they could get work. They were not able to communicate with their family members. They thought of the necessity of communicating with their family members so they invented a telephone so they could communicate easily. There was a problem with the telephone. It was very big and was unable to be carried from one place to another so people invented mobile phones which are very light and portable.

In conclusion, necessity is the mother of invention because shelter, fire, electricity and mobile phone and so on were invented when the feelings of necessity rose in the inquisitive minds.

A Dream to Achieve
- Nitika Kapali - 30016, Grade ... 22 August, 2023

In a small town, there lived a girl named Lily. She was shy and introverted. She always used to stay in her room, wearing headphones and listening to tons of songs. She was addicted to listening to songs. The songs helped her escape reality and enter a whole different, magical world. Songs were the only language that spoke to her soul and calmed her down. She also wrote songs and sang them in front of her sister, Emily. Emily was the complete opposite of Lily—extroverted and having tons of friends. Despite their differences, Emily was not just a sister but also a best friend to Lily. Lily could only trust Emily as her best friend. Emily always encouraged Lily to participate in singing contests, as Lily had a magical voice. However, Lily always avoided that question, even though she was interested in pursuing her dream.
One day at school, Stella, Lily's class teacher, announced a singing contest scheduled for next week. Sitting beside her, Emily told Lily, "Lily, why don't you participate too? You have a great voice!" Lily was a bit shocked, but after thinking for a while, she slowly raised her hand. Deep inside, though, Lily was scared of public speaking.
After school, Emily ran up to Lily and asked, "So, which song will you sing?" Lily replied, "I think I will write a new song specifically for the contest. But Emily, I am really scared. How can I sing in front of thousands of people? What if they laugh at me?" "Oh, Lily! There's no problem at all! It's just a contest, not World War 3!" Emily tried to explain, wanting her sister to overcome her fear and be proud of her talent. "It's not time for joking! I really need to practise," Lily said. As they reached home while talking, Lily went to her bedroom and started writing songs. "Sweetie, I heard you participated in a singing contest," Lily's mom said. It turns out Emily told the entire household about Lily participating in a contest. "Yes, I am. Emily told you, right?" Lily said. "I am proud of you! I will make some snacks for you." With those words, Lily's mom left the room. Lily was somewhat proud of herself too. This was the first time she had ever participated in a contest. Even though she was nervous, she was more excited. Lily spent most of her time writing the song and practising. After a week, her song was ready, and of course, Emily would be the first one to hear it. Emily read it and exclaimed, "Wow, Lily! You will surely win!" And that turned out to be true! The song was genuinely beautiful.
On the day of the contest, Emily was there to comfort Lily and offer encouragement. When Lily's name was called out, she went on stage and sang. While singing, she felt nervous and glanced at the audience. Instead of laughing, the audience seemed to enjoy it. This encouragement boosted Lily's confidence, and she continued to sing beautifully. The song ended with the audience clapping in delight. Now, Lily's fear of public speaking is gone. She became more active in contests and even won some. All of this happened because of her sister, Emily.
