- Jiya Sapkota - 25003, Grade I ... 18 January, 2022

Yuri Kochiyama
- Muskan Singh - 24003, Grade X ... 18 January, 2022

Yuri Kochiyama, a Japanese-American activist, died of natural causes in Berkeley, California, at the age of 93. According to her family, the lifetime advocate for civil rights in the black, Latino, Native American, and Asian-American communities died quietly in her sleep Sunday morning. Akemi Kochiyama, her granddaughter, verified her death. Mrs. Kochiyama was a daughter of Japanese immigrants who had settled in Southern California, has experienced discrimination since she was a young girl. She spent two years in an internment camp for Japanese-Americans in Arkansas during WWII, a harrowing experience that also exposed her to the Jim Crow South's prejudice.

Kochiyama was born Mary Yuriko Nakahara in San Pedro, California, a small hamlet south of Los Angeles, where she spent her early years. She and her family were compelled to relocate to internment camps with tens of thousands of other Japanese-Americans months after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. At the Jerome Relocation Center in Arkansas, where she spent two years, she met her late husband, Bill Kochiyama, who served with other Japanese-American troops in the 442nd Regimental Combat Team. After WWII, the couple married and settled in New York City to start their family. Her interest in the civil rights struggle was sparked by her experiences living in housing projects with black and Puerto Rican neighbours. Kochiyama hosted weekly open houses for activists at her family's apartment, where she hung newspaper clippings on the walls and stacked flyers on the kitchen table. Her eldest daughter, Audee Kochiyama-Holman, said that their house felt like it was in motion 24/7. Her association with Malcolm X, whom she met for the first time in 1963 even though briefly, influenced her advocacy. Kochiyama began focusing her work on black nationalism and was present when Malcolm X died. She raced near Malcolm X and cradled his head on her lap minutes after gunmen opened fire on him at his final address in New York City in 1965. Kochiyama is shown in a black-and-white photo in Life magazine staring worriedly at Malcolm X's bullet-riddled body through horn-rimmed glasses.

Through the Civil Liberties Act, which President Ronald Reagan signed into law in 1988, she and her husband lobbied for reparations and an official government apology for Japanese-American internees in the 1980s. Her ongoing commitment to social problems inspired new generations of activists, particularly among Asian-Americans. Kochiyama's second cousin Tim Toyama, who wrote a one-act play about her friendship with Malcolm X, said, "She was not your normal Japanese-American person, especially a nisei," or second-generation Japanese-American. "She was clearly ahead of her time, and we were able to catch up with her."

- Niharika Chapagain - 25006, G ... 17 January, 2022

Uma Devi Badi
- Bipana Shrestha - 24002, Grad ... 17 January, 2022

Previously there were only a few influential women in Nepal but now it is totally different as many women have stepped forward and done remarkable things all over the world. Among all the incredible women out there in Nepal, Uma Devi Badi is also one of them. Uma Devi Badi is a human rights activist and also a leader. She was born in 1965 in Salyan district of Nepal. She started her career as a sex worker at a very young age as that was the only profession available to women of the Badi caste at that time. When she was 21 years old she got married to a boy named Prem Bhatta, a Brahmin. Their inter-caste marriage caused a big controversy at that time because the Badi caste was considered one of Nepal's lowest castes. Uma Devi is a single mother but she raised two of her sister's sons as her own.
Ever since she was a child she had to face many obstacles in her life. She had gone through many problems. She was treated unfairly and discriminated against as she was a sex woker and also because she had married Prem Bhatta who was a Brahmin. But she had been working to change society. So she decided not to follow society's expectations for women of her caste, and instead, eventually, quit life as a sex worker and started working for a better future for her and also her society. At the age of 40, She became head of the local Community Support Group and opened a hostel for 25 Badi boys and girls in Tikapur. The children were kept there and taken to the local school, where they would receive extra help for their studies. The success of this project had led to the establishment of an even bigger project that would eventually help around 100 kids.  In 2004 when the protesters' demands were ignored she removed her upper part clothes and hung them at the entrance of Singha Durbar, the seat of government. And then the government agreed to work with her.
After seeing her many women followed her. Women saw her as an example and spoke up for themselves and for their rights. In her village women were forced to work as sex workers because they had no other choice. There was no other job for women except dancing and performing at festivals and programs. In her village, they were not even given basic rights. But she wanted to change the system. She wanted people to know that women are strong and need to be treated equally. That's why she worked hard and worked to end untouchability and prostitution. Uma Devi Badi has earned admiration for her persistent hard work and continuous dedication to the country's betterment.

- Niharika Chapagain - 25006, G ... 14 January, 2022

Importance of Relationships
- Aarav B.C - 25001, Grade IX o ... 12 January, 2022

Once there were two best friends, Jack and Harry. They were really close to each other. They were like brothers. Jack was a type of person who was well mannered. He respected everyone, he talked politely with everyone. Everyone really liked him. But due to his kindness he used to get bullied a lot in school and Harry was the one who always saved him from the bullies. Harry was a type of person who was not well mannered. He did not respect anyone except Jack. He used to talk rudely with others. And this was all the fault of his parents who did not care about him. They wished that he had not been born at all. They only cared about their other daughter Cynthia. They thought of Harry that way because he was good at nothing except fighting and doing naughty things. Harry really hated his parents.

Whereas Jack’s parents were really good and kind just like Jack, Harry also used to respect them a lot. One day Harry got into big trouble. He had broken a boy’s nose. His parents had to pay for all the medical expenses of the boy and after that they were so angry that they kicked Harry out the house. Harry decided that he would work really hard, he would start studying. He decided to change. So he asked Jack for help. Jack was ready to help. Jack asked Harry to make a promise to him that from now on he would behave well, talk politely and will not fight. Harry agreed to that. From that day on Harry really was changing. Although he still got into minor troubles everyone could see the change in him. His grades were going up so the teachers were really happy with him, he also started behaving properly. And soon Jack and Harry had the same characteristics. Both were really kind, both were equally good at studies and sports.

After a few years they completed their studies and started working. Jack became a very high ranking police officer and Harry was a CEO of a bank. Their hard work really paid off. One day Harry’s mother and father were there to see Harry. He was so angry at them that he did not want to see them but they were the parents that gave birth to him so he decided to meet them. They said that they had no money with them. They were at a huge loss. They had many loans to pay. After Cynthia got married she stopped sending them money so they were facing a big problem. Even Though Harry wanted to help he couldn’t, he remembered how they used to treat him, how they threw him out of the house. So he said he was not willing to help them.

Harry shared this incident with Jack. Jack told Harry that whatever they did to you in the past was not good. It was very bad for a parent to do something like that to their child but they are his parents. You should not do the same thing that they did to you. Otherwise what would be the difference between you and them? This question moved Harry. It touched his heart. So the next day he called his parents and cleared all of their loans. He also said that he would send some money to them monthly. Harry’s parents moved to tears after that. They told him that they were so glad and happy that Harry was their son and they were really really sorry for what they did to him in the past..

- Sohana Ale Magar - 25016, Gra ... 10 January, 2022

Patience leads to good result
- Angel Dhimal - 25002, Grade I ... 24 December, 2021

Once there was a girl named Alisha. She lived in a small village in Morang. She loved dancing. She was studying in a small village school. There she met her dance teacher whom she called gurumaa. Alisha had a dancing class in school where she would learn dancing. She loved dancing very much. Everytime she got free time she would dance. One day while returning from school she saw a huge crowd. She saw a girl with medals and a garland. People were appreciating her and putting her garlands and tika on her. Alisha was very surprised. From a stranger from the crowd she got to know that the girl had won the best dancer competition. She had become the winner from the village and made her parents and village proud so everyone was showering her with love and appreciation. Alisha was very surprised to hear that. After that incident she was very surprised and now she had dreamt to be in that place every day. Every night she always used to think how it would feel being in that position. After that day dancing was not just for fun to her it became  her passion.

Her guruma helped her with dancing. Her parents were supportive too but the villagers never believed in her. they never praised her for her good dancing instead they always used to taunt her and her parents. They said that they would regret not listening to them. Their daughter would never succeed. Many villagers used to say that but she always ignored them and practiced day and night whenever she got the chance to do so. Her parents also always supported her. One day her teacher introduced her to the upcoming dance competition. Alisha was very excited and she had practiced hard for the competition. They both went where the competition was being held. She danced very well but the judge was not satisfied because of her performance. They said that her dancing style was very old. She was very sad and returned home. The villagers were laughing at her failure. But she didn't give up. She practiced very hard. She went to a dance academy to learn new steps and styles of dances. There she met one judge who was teaching dance. She requested him to tutor her and told him about how badly she wanted to win. He was very touched by her words. He agreed to teach her. After that day she had a new mentor. Her teacher was very touched by seeing her dedication to dance. She learned many new steps. She focused on dancing as well and her studies. After many months of practice she went to that competition again. There she gave her hundred percent.

Everyone was very shocked to see a huge change in her. She was selected and obviously after a few months there was a finale where she was able to reach. Many villagers supported her but still some of them still thought she wouldn't make it. It was the time to announce the winner and there it said, the winner is “Alish!”. She was very happy. Her parents were proud of her. Her dance mentor was very happy. Those villagers who didn't support her had come to put garland at home. Coming home surrounded by everyone appreciating her putting tika and garland on her, she was very happy. Her dream came true. She remembered the girl who was standing in the same place where she was currently standing. She was proud of herself and her dedication.
