Program Overview
Background
The Software Club set up an event on 28th April where they selected about 30 participants from the applicant list on a first come first serve basis. These participants were divided into two groups to maintain social distancing. The first session consisted of Basics of Networking where the basics of crimping were taught and in the second session, Virtual Machine Configuration was conducted where the applicants were taught to set up a virtual machine using Oracle VirtualBox or similar software.

Objectives
The major objectives of the session were:

Familiarity with Networking Media and Tools:

  • Crimping Tools
  • Cable Tester
  • Cable Connectors (RJ45)
  • Ethernet Cabling (Straight Through)
  • Configuration of Virtual Machine

Description
Due to the ongoing pandemic, the participant limit was decreased and some protocols were followed before the start of the event. Then we had a basic intro session where the participants were informed why the basic knowledge of networking is required. Then the session started and the tools were provided to everyone. Following the steps demonstrated by Nishesh Thakuri the Ethernet Cabling was successfully conducted.

In the second part of the session, the participants were informed about the basics of the OS and the various platforms present like RedHat, Debian, Fedora Linux Distros. Then we discussed the difference between the Windows and the Linux system.  The participants were introduced to the virtual system and its requirements. Finally, a Linux Distro was installed as a guest system with the main system as Windows.

With this, we finally reached the Q/A session where interested participants asked various questions to the tutor clearing confusion and looking forward to the next step.  With this, the event came to a conclusion.

Conclusion
The event was successfully conducted and the participants gained an opportunity to learn Basic Networking skills.
