Online classes are the virtual learning process through the medium of the internet by various electronic devices like computers, laptops, mobile phones, etc. Online classes can be run through various websites like zoom, google meet by seeing the face of the teacher and student, and by assigning homework by creating a virtual classroom via google classroom or any other websites.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, people are forced to stay at home and it has affected our normal lives that includes going to school. This is the time where online classes have become popular. In this situation, conducting online classes is the only way to get knowledge overcoming the bad situation COVID-19 has put us into. Online classes have been very useful and helpful and have many merits in this type of situation however it also has some demerits.

Online classes have helped the students connect to their teachers via the internet sitting in front of their devices by staying at home. However, for some students, it might be difficult as their parents might not be in good financial condition to buy a device for online learning or for the internet and it further puts pressure on both the parents and the child. Also, online classes are being conducted through the medium of the internet, in our country Nepal where the powercut is prevalent the student might miss an important class or even an exam which they might not have missed if it was held in school. During the online classes the teacher and student both are teaching and learning from their home and while speaking they must turn their microphone on, there might be some kind of background noises coming from their home which might disturb the whole class. The students join their virtual classes through their electronic devices, there might be a possibility of technical default or the device might suddenly stop working. This will hamper the child’s learning process and develop confusion regarding the classes. And as this is a virtual class the students might not be as attentive as they were normally and get distracted by different things or by their family members as every one might not have a separate room or enough space to attend the class where no one is present. They can also be using different apps on their electronic devices rather than concentrating on their studies. This will badly affect their studies and the teacher might not even be aware of it. Also, this might make the students anti-social as they will not be interacting like they used to do before. Due to the classes being virtual, the students need to be on their electronic devices 24 /7 as they need to learn, do their assignments, and research on different topics through their devices. It might reduce the eyesight of the student and they might need to put on spectacles due to it.

The online classes have been very helpful during this pandemic however there are a lot of cons of it. We might have to tackle all these obstacles in order to learn like the way before via online classes. The teachers are doing their best from their side, as students, it’s our responsibility to give it out best as well.
