Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices. Mental health is important at every stage of life, from childhood and adolescence through adulthood.

Over the course of our life, if we experience any subtle mental health problems, our thinking, mood, and behavior could be affected, which can also affect the thinking patterns and our behavior. So if our mental health is not stable, there is a high chance of having mental health problems and personality disorders. A range of various mental illnesses, such as depression, substance abuse, and psychosis, are linked to the same personality trait.

A personality disorder is a type of mental health in which you have a rigid and unhealthy pattern of thinking, functioning and behaving. A person with a personality disorder has trouble perceiving and relating to situations and people. So we need to be aware of the influences that can affect us.

This is an important topic to have basic knowledge on one’s behavior, traits, thought patterns and actions.A person with a personality disorder thinks, feels, behaves or relates to others very differently from the average person. People with personality disorders find it hard to change their behavior or adapt to different situations. However, personality disorders are genuine mental illnesses that cause distress. There are many different types of personality disorder. Some people with a personality disorder may appear withdrawn, some dramatic and emotional, and others odd or eccentric.

Some of the personality disorders are as follows:-

Paranoid personality disorder, people with this disorder often find it hard to trust others and may see threats when there aren’t any in particular. Having this disorder is to feel like everyone is trying to hurt you or trick you which provokes a major threat to the victim. Early childhood experiences ,including physical or emotional trauma are the major cause for this disorder.

Borderline personality disorder means having intense emotions that can change quickly and feeling a strong fear of being abandoned by others. People with this disorder have trouble having control  in regulating their emotions and maintaining a consistent sense of identity. Being a victim of emotional, physical or sexual abuse and being exposed to long-term fear distress as a child are some of the causes for this disorder.

Dissociative identity disorder (DID) is a mental health condition. People with DID have two or more separate identities. These personalities control their behavior at different times. Each identity has its own personal history, traits, likes and dislikes. DID can lead to gaps in memory and hallucinations (believing something is real when it isn’t). Dissociative identity disorder used to be called multiple personality disorder or split personality disorder. DID is one of several. These disorders affect a person’s ability to connect with reality.

Hence, from the above description we can get a few ideas on the personality disorder that people unknowingly suffer from. This is one of the cases that people rarely open about as most of the people fail to identify the illness within themselves. So it's important to spread awareness in these topics as people intentionally ignore mental health related topics in today's society.
