She shone in the spotlight
Pranced upon the stage
As delicate as a flower
she bloomed among the rest
She floated as lightly as a feather
As gracefully as a swan
She captured the audience’s attention
And others as well
Now she disappeared
Among the shadows
They lurk
They take her away
Away from the spotlight
Away from her sunlight
Tears glazed her eyes
Her throat felt ripped out
Fingerprints tainted her porcelain skin
Fingerprints that were not hers
Shrunken against the shadows
She wilted
She was a delicate flower
And you plucked her petals.
