Dr. Sanduk Ruit, mostly known as the God of Sight especially in the rural areas of Nepal was born in 1954 AD, in Taplejung district. Sanduk was the second child of the six children his parents had. He had to lose three of his siblings due to diseases but it was the most painful for him when he lost his younger sister when she was 15 years old.
This loss made him take a strong decision to become a doctor and help the poor ones. He worked hard and went to India and Australia to attain higher studies. After getting specialised in eye surgery, he returned back to Nepal and founded Tilganga Eye Hospital in Kathmandu.
He is the first Nepali doctor to perform cataract surgery. He offers free services including surgery to patients from remote places who cannot afford to come to Kathmandu. He has performed multiple thousands of surgeries and has brought back the eyesight of thousands of people.
According to him, it gives him a lot of pleasure to see the smiles of people when they restore their eyesight after his treatment.
