Uranus is the seventh planet in the solar system. It has the second-thickest ring. It rotates sideways. It is teal in colour. It is made out of water. Two years later, the object was universally accepted as a new planet, partly because of observations by astronomer Johann Elert Bode. Herschel tried unsuccessfully to name his discovery, Georgium sidus, after King George III. Instead, Bode's recommendation to name it after the Greek god of the sky, Uranus, was approved by the scientific community. William Herschel, an astronomer, found it in 1781, although he originally thought it was a comet or a star.
