Numb

It was the redness painted on the walls of the castle,

Where the princess was trapped behind bars.

The stables were being destroyed,

And the fire spread quickly.

It burned like my heart once did,

The ashes eventually turning to dust.

It disappeared into nothingness,

And soon it was completely gone.

A numb little bug hung on a rope,

Amid broken glass and blood.

No feelings remained, no love to be found.

There was no mercy, as the bug was already numb.

Night arrived as soon as it could,

But even the moon didn't appear as it should.

Light was scared in the dark, the wind passed by,

But there was no sign of the moon's arc.

Yet no one really cared, as numb as they were.

Who wouldn't want to be as free as a dove?

A knife through my heart doesn't cause pain,

Nor do words affect me anymore.

The numb little bug still hangs on a rope,

Tied to the neck with no hope.
