Many people have body dysmorphia. Numerous people in this generation are obsessed with their weight. If someone is feeling down because of their appearance and tries to find comfort by posting it on social media, what do people do? They simply make others feel worse about themselves. Most people who suffer from body dysmorphia are teenagers. The main reason is people who body shame others. They body shame others for their satisfaction but do not realize what it can lead to.
How does it feel to constantly be worried about your weight and appearance? Well, the majority of individuals undoubtedly say that it is slowly eating them alive and constantly depressing them. Even we find ourselves comparing our bodies to others. People of all sizes can obsess over their weights. Comments like ‘you have gained weight’ or ‘you have lost weight’ can trigger a person's mental stability. Even if you’re skinny people will have negative thoughts and even if you are fat people will still complain so we should not really try changing ourselves for others. It is quite sad seeing people constantly worrying about others' weight and complaining about it. In this generation people think that fat means ugly. Being fat or skinny is not a bad thing. Society needs to stop telling people what to do about their bodies. Body shaming needs to stop as soon as possible. People do not understand that their words can hurt. Body shaming can lead a person to obsess over their weight so much that they starve themselves or binge eat which could lead to eating disorders. Obsession with weight causes a lot of problems in one's life. They constantly worry about their weight and appearance to the point they start hating everything about themselves. A lot of people try changing their appearance to please others. If a person is neglected throughout their life and considered “ugly” and suddenly once they change their appearance and people will start noticing them more than it is obvious that they will think that is what people want and try to change their entire selves. We often find ourselves obsessing over our appearance and try to change it because we feel so ugly and irritated. We compare ourselves to others who fit the ‘beauty standards' and try being more like them. Constantly looking at the mirror and breaking down, hiding your body and face, using makeup to cover your imperfections are only a few negative effects of it.
It can even lead to self harm and poor mental health. If we obsess over our weight/appearance too much then it can worsen to the point we can not stand our own reflection. A lot of people try changing their appearance but even if it changes they can not accept themselves which causes anxiety, depression, suicide, self harm, etc. People need to stop commenting about others' appearances. Even if you do not fit the beauty standards, always remember that everyone is beautiful and has their own flaws. We do not have to look like people who are labeled as “perfect”. Also all sizes are beautiful and everyone has their own flaws and imperfections so stop hating on yourself.
