Dashain is one of the major festivals of Hindus. This festival is also known as Bada Dashain or  Vijaya Dashami. Dashain generally falls in the months of Ashwin or Kartik. Dashain is the festival that celebrates the victory of good over evil. We celebrated Dashain for 10 days. The first day is called Ghatasthapana. On this day the Kalash is filled with holy water and is then sewn with barley seeds. The first nine days of the festival are called Navarati. Goddess Durga is worshipped during this period. The seventh day is known as Fulpati. The eighth day is called Maha Asthami and the ninth day is called Maha Navami.
The tenth day is the main day of this festival. It is called Vijaya Dashami or Tika. On this day elders offer tika and jamara to their juniors with blessing and dakshina. They get blessings for good health and happiness.  People wear new clothes, visit relatives and enjoy delicious food. Children fly kites and play swings for fun. Some people play cards too. The entire family members gather together to exchange their happiness and good wishes. They celebrate Dashain with great joy.
