Cricket: An Introduction

Cricket is one of the most popular outdoor sports. It requires the use of a bat and ball. It is played among 11-11 players. It is played in a wide circular field. Cricket requires team coordination and proper mindset to play. Cricket is one of the dangerous sports due to the hardness of the cricket ball and the batsman needs to be fully geared with Leg pads, helmet and guard. Cricket is mainly popular in Asia. A cricketer requires a handful of skills to be a professional.
Cricket is one of the oldest games to be properly played from around the 1800's. England is considered as one of the founding nations of cricket with LORD’s being one of the oldest stadiums present. It all started with two powerhouses of cricket, England and Australia. Cricket was first played in 1400’s in France. Game of cricket always used to be played between Australia and England, the clash between England and Australia is called THE ASHES and it is still followed throughout the current days. There are various Formats in Cricket, TEST was the only format played in previous days, later on followed by One Day and T20.
Test cricket is the most prioritized and celebrated format of cricket, it has 5 days of cricket to play between teams and each team has 2 innings to display their batting and bowling performance.
The next is ODI also known as One Day International, each team is given 50 overs to bat and bowl. It was played from 1979, and still followed throughout the current days. The ODI World Cup is held within a four years time period. There have been many World Cup championships starting with West indies, India, Australia, Pakistan, Sri-lanka and lastly England. The most successful team in the world cup is undoubtedly Australia with 5 world cups.
The next and final is the T20 format also known as the shortest format of cricket. T20 was considered as one of the major formats in cricket around 2004-5. It is called the shortest format because each team gets only 20 overs to showcase batting and bowling performance. There have been a total of 7 T20 world cups and the most successful side is West Indies with 2 world cups out of 7.
Cricket has been one of the most popular sports and will continue to be more popular at this pace. Moreover, the advancement of Nepal in Cricket has been great, even though there’s still more for Nepal to advance in Cricket like other great countries. The most memorable achievement Nepal has done is to get an International status in ODI. That was indeed the first step towards Nepal’s advancement in Cricket.
