Butterflies are very beautiful insects. They have bright and colourful wings and are usually found around flowers in the garden. The life cycle of a butterfly is very interesting. Firstly, a butterfly lays eggs on a leaf. The egg hatches after 5 to 7 days. A larva or a caterpillar comes out and then the caterpillar eats its own egg shell and leaves continuously without a rest. When the caterpillar gets fat, it stops eating and sheds its skin to make a pupa on a leaf or a branch and grows in the cocoon. When the caterpillar grows, the butterfly comes out and flies. It then starts to look for a proper place to lay eggs.
