Tihar is one of the biggest festivals celebrated in Nepal. This festival usually takes place in the month of Kartik. This festival is celebrated for five days. The first day of the festival is ‘Kaag Tihar’; crows are worshipped on this day. People offer food to crows. The second day is ‘Kukur tihar’ and dogs are worshipped on this day to show respect towards their faithfulness towards humans. The third day is ‘Gai puja’ and ‘Laxmi Puja’. Goddess Laxmi is worshipped on this day with great joy. Cows are also worshipped and fed on this day as they symbolise goddess Laxmi in Hindu religion. People light oil lamps around their house and gardens to welcome the goddess. They also make rangoli and play ‘Vailini’ on this day. Oxen are worshipped on the  fourth day as they help farmers a lot throughout the year. Newari people celebrate “Mha puja’ on this day.

On the fifth day, brothers are worshipped by putting tika on their forehead for their long life to mark ‘Vai Tika’.

I enjoy this festival.
