Long ago in the Shang Dynasty (1600-1046 B.C.), in the distant past, there lived a very beautiful lady named Chang’e. Her husband Hou Yi was a very good archer. There were about ten suns who were providing heat and light on earth. The people on earth were living in blistering heat. Then, Hou Yi using his bow and arrow killed nine of the suns. Then, Hou Yi was declared a national hero. Then as a reward, Hou Yi got a magical elixir of immortality. It was only enough for one person but Chang’e both didn’t want to leave each other, so they kept elixir safe with them.

One day when Hou Yi was not at home, a person tried to steal the magic elixir. Then as the thief was in the house Chang’e was so scared and in order to save the magical elixir, Chang’e ate it. Then being a moon goddess she flew to the moon, leaving her husband behind. Alone on earth Hou Yi missed his wife so much that he made offerings to the moon which was called moon cake.

Thus to remember Chang’e, the moon goddess, Chinese people worship the moon and eat fruits and a moon shaped dessert called moon cake That was the legend of chinese Mid-Autumn festival.
