We have all wondered what happens to food after it goes into our stomachs? Some people may say it goes in and comes out but no there are a lot of things happening in the background. Our body does a lot of things to food in our stomachs. Our stomach tortures the food that goes inside our body our stomach beats the food up takes all the parts of the food out cuts food into pieces burns it takes useful stuff out and compresses it and takes it out in the form of sweat, stool, urine, etc. Our digestive system has 4 main components: they are our gastrointestinal tract, secondly, there are our liver, gallbladder, and pancreas, thirdly there are the body's enzymes, hormones, blood, and nerves, and the last component the mesentery. All these components are really important because these components help digest our food and create energy from the food. These parts also help us take many nutrients from the food. Our digestive system has ten organs and 20 cell types that are specialized for our digestive systems. It is one of the most complex systems in our human body. The gastrointestinal tract is what transports our food and has an internal surface area of about 30-40 square meters. Secondly, there are the gallbladder, the liver, and the pancreas. This trio is used to break down food using special juices. Thirdly there are our body's hormones, nerves, blood, and enzymes. These parts also help break down food and deliver the nutrients formed. Lastly, we have the mesentery which is a large tissue that supports our organs of the digestive system.
