Chimpa and Chimpu are said to be chimpanzees from Nigeria. But till now it has not really been proven that they are from there. You might think there are just normal chimpanzees but no! They are not! Their story will really surprise you.
Chimpa and Chimpu are siblings. Their story started in Nigeria. There were 2 wildlife traffickers there. The wildlife traffickers were flying to many countries at a time. They were trafficking two chimpanzees and selling them to an unknown buyer in India.
The unlucky chimpanzees had to be Chimpa and Chimpu. The Traffickers could not go or take a flight to Nigeria directly, so they had to stop in Nepal. When the Nepali police were checking the very “fragile” box they decided to see what was in it and they found Chimpa and Chimpu.
Chimpa and Chimpu had been in a box for so long that they fell into depression.
They have been taken care of in Nepal in the Lalitpur central zoo for 5 years now. And the zoo has been trying their best to make them feel comfortable. The traffickers got their sentence in jail and are in big trouble.
According to the law, Chimpa and Chimpu have to be taken to the country where they used to live but since Nigeria has no proof that Chimpa and Chimpu are from their country and are only claiming it.
Chimpa nd Chimpu will be in Nepal temporarily.
